One of the top music torrent trackers, STMusic (STM) has opened public registrations after being invite only for an extended period of time. Last time this site was open for registration was back in March 2009, almost 7 months ago. STM is a popular & well established private torrent site that has been online for several years. It’s a great alternative for folks who aren't members of What.CD and Waffles.Fm (which are arguably the top 2 specialized music trackers in the world). In addition to the unspecified period of open signups, all torrents on site have been declared free leech. There’s also a scene releases upload contest ongoing.
STMusic is the sister site of popular General/0Day tracker SuperTorrents (ST) and is run by the same administration. Due to this very factor, STM was subject to the same controversies and E-drama that surrounded SuperTorrents sometime back, which involved issues related to tracker donations, hackings and so on. There was also a time when STM was plagued by constant service disruptions. However, the tracker has managed to survive those dark times and today, STM still remains to be one of the larger music torrent sites with ~22000 active torrents and a strong active user base consisting of 21000+ registered users.
STM does not focus on a specific music genre like Vibes.Fm (Jazz), PunkTorrents (Punk/SKA), MetalBits (Metal), etc. Instead, it tracks a broad selection of music across multiple genres (over 40 music categories defined in search). In other words, if you are a fan of US/UK music, you’ll find something you love on STM.
Lot of MP3 music albums as well as lossless music (mainly FLAC format) can be found on STM. In addition, there are some DVDR and MDVDR files uploaded to the tracker. Both scene and P2P releases are indexed. Expect the number of scene releases to further increase as there is a scene upload contest currently ongoing.
STM runs on a custom torrent tracker script that you might not have seen elsewhere (a variant of the script used by SuperTorrents). Existing layout is user friendly but there was a major UI overhaul planned by STM administration. However, this seems to have been delayed:
Open Signups: Unfortunately since the revamp of ST has been delayed we won't be making major changes to STm until early 2010 at the earliest. However, we can still function as usual and bring in some new members with an open signup!
Free Leech: To welcome our new members we will be having a Free Leech for the remainder of the week! Only upload is counted!
As the notice above says, public signups at STM are currently open – you no longer need an invite to register. If you were looking forward to get into this site, now is a good time to do that.
