CopyThatFloppy – Software Only Torrent Tracker For Windows, Linux & Mac Apps

It’s a brand new year and here’s news of a brand new private tracker. It’s not everyday you see the launch of a BitTorrent site specializing in software. CopyThatFloppy (CTF) joins the limited number of appz trackers out there alongside the likes of Appz Bitshock and AppzUniverse. After being in beta for about a month, CTF launched to the public a couple of days ago on 31 December 2010. Based on the Gazelle codebase, this is probably the only new software tracker to hit the BitTorrent scene in 2010. CTF tracks all sorts of applications for Windows, Linux, Apple Mac and other operating systems including mobile platforms such as iOS and Android. Don’t expect to find movies or games here as this tracker is all about software and software only. If you are interested in becoming a member, registrations are currently open.

As of right now, there isn’t a lot of content indexed on CTF. At the time of posting there were only around 25 torrents uploaded to the tracker. However, keep in mind that this site is only 2 days old. Since there are a lot of 0Day Appz releases pre’d by scene groups on a daily basis, CTF most likely will not face a shortage of torrents if they manage to index even half of these releases.

Note that the content on CopyThatFloppy is not limited to Windows software. There are a number of Mac and Linux applications uploaded and the predefined categories list suggests that tracker staff have plans to upload iOS and Android applications as well. All torrents are categorized and tagged for easy searching. Some of the available apps are free software and some are pirated material that come with key generators and cracks. In addition to torrents, there is a separate section for text based tutorials and tech guides.

Registrations for CTF are currently open. There are around 2500 free slots up for the taking so get in while you can.

CreativeBits – BitTorrent Tracker For Video Tutorials, Templates, E-Books (Ratio Free)

In the last couple of weeks we saw the launch of several successful specialized torrent trackers such as TheGeeks and SceneVids. Here’s yet another niche private torrent site that’s shown a lot of promise for the short period of time it’s been online; Creative-Bits (CB). CreativeBits is a BitTorrent tracker dedicated to tracking templates, graphics, fonts, E-books, video tutorials, content management systems (CMS), Flash & Photoshop content, software, etc. In short, it’s a torrent site that’d come in handy for software engineers, web developers, web designers, graphics designers and even to students of pretty much any field related to information technology. CB is one of the handful trackers that cater to this particular niche, other similar sites being GFXnews, Torrent Script (now defunct) and TemplateP2P (which is not a tracker but a DDL forum). CB is currently accepting new members and there’s recruitment going on in their official IRC channel.

During the initial stages of the project, CreativeBits went through an extended beta testing period of nearly two months. The site is built on a customized version of Gazelle codebase and has been functioning smoothly since their public launch early September. Although it’s only been a couple of weeks since CreativeBits officially launched, several major changes have already been made based on user feedback. For instance, CB is now a ratio free tracker. Quoted below is a news post explaining in detail the the changes made recently:

We have some changes for you guys today, and they are outlined as follows:

We have gone Ratio Free! We asked you guys how you felt about it, and the majority of you want it, so here it is. We're currently working on an HnR background system, and you will be notified when it's fully in place. Please take note: That doesn't mean we aren't keeping HnR logs right now, because we are. Please seed everything you snatch for at least 72 hours. The content is very small, we hope our users can show some spirit and seed for longer.

We have a new Bonus Points System. I said in a thread earlier that we wouldn't have this, but it was input so points can be gathered in case we figure out a use for them in the future. You earn 1 point every hour for each torrent you're seeding, and the base items on the bonus page will change over time.

User class requirements have changed as well. Member class must be on site for 4 weeks and have 10 uploaded torrents, while Power User class must be on site for 6 weeks and have 25 uploaded torrents. We believe this is easy to accomplish due to extremely small filesizes and abundant content.

A couple other behind the scenes things for staff, like category editing and such.

We hope you guys are excited about these changes, and we'll be delivering content more steadily from now on. So download what you want and seed away, collect those points in case we offer something special in the future!

As you might be aware, CreativeBits is yet to have an open signup – their preferred mode of recruitment so far has been through IRC interview on the official invites channel. As of 26/9/2010, the number of registered users on CB stood at 175 – this isn’t a lot but still it’s a respectable number for a three week old niche tracker. CB hasn’t been shy on building their torrent index though – at last check it indexed nearly 650 active torrents (and they are not common content you’d usually find on General/0Day trackers either).

Although some might brand CB an E-learning tracker, educational material isn’t what this site is all about. A detailed explanation on the type of content you can find on this tracker is given in the following forum post by hxck (SysOp):

Naturally, you’d by now be wondering how to get into this tracker. Like we said before, signups are currently closed – the only way in is via the IRC interview (or if you get invited by a friend). If you don’t know anything about coding/development/web design/graphics design, etc. you might find the interview to be hard. CB staff are looking for candidates who will actually use the site instead of collectors. Interview channel details are given below:

BitTorrent Tracker For Mac & iPhone Apps - Save The Coratee (STC) - Invites On IRC

For several months, there have been numerous requests from our readers to feature on this blog a private BitTorrent tracker that dealt specifically with the Apple Mac platform. Although you could find Mac software on general trackers and on some of the specialized apps trackers, almost all hard core Mac fans from novice to power users would like the idea of a specialized tracker filled with software for their beloved operating system. Save The Coratee (STC) is one such site which is a must have for all Apple Mac, iPhone or iPod users. This ratio free private tracker indexes software, games, tutorial videos and even books and magazines for both Mac OS and iPhone. Although closed for public signup, interested members can easily gain access to this tracker through STC’s official IRC invites channel.

Launched nearly 2 years ago, STC is currently one of the most stable Mac trackers on the net. As of 19/4/2010 it has 3600 registered (enabled) members and ~4800 active torrents uploaded to the tracker. The site is based on a heavily customized version of Gazelle codebase and has a ton of great usability features as well as added functionality (for example the ‘Coratee’ points system). According to site administrators, a new and improved version of STC based on Gazelle RC2 is currently in the works.

Anyways let’s get back to the most important aspect of STC; content. As mentioned earlier this tracker is full of software and games for Apple Mac OS X. But that’s not all – tons of apps & games for Apple’s famed iPhone are also indexed. Other additional torrent categories include Books/Magazines, Music, Audiobooks and E-Learning tutorials. In short, this tracker is a godsend for Apple fanboys :) There are some torrent packs indexed on STC but it’s the Collages feature that adds real value in this department – it creates a number of additional ‘virtual’ packs by grouping related torrents together.

Another great feature everyone will love is how STC binds similar torrents together in its main index. Powered by Gazelle’s advanced grouping features, STC makes it a breeze to find even older versions of indexed software (see above screenshots for an example).

As mentioned earlier, SaveTheCoratee is a ratio free private tracker. Instead of ratio, the site uses an innovative bonus points system based on ‘Coratees Saved’ as a currency. You can read all about it their WiKi article located here (and it’s highly recommended you do this before doing anything else once you join). Currently there are multiple ways for users to earn points on STC:

You are given 1 point per downloaded gigabyte.
You are given 10 points per torrent uploaded.
You are given 1 point per 10 hours spent seeding per torrent.
You are given between 1 and 100 points based on how long you have been seeding vs. possible time.
You are given 1 point per torrent snatch.
Manual Bonus - Given at the discretion of staff and is non-negotiable. Points can be given or taken away.

STC is currently closed for signup – and it’s unlikely that it’ll open registrations anytime soon. However if you are looking forward to get into this tracker, you can easily obtain an invite through the official IRC invites channel. Torrent Script – New Tracker For Templates, Scripts, Clones, Flash And More

In a world full of General/0Day trackers, it’s always nice to see a new specialized tracker being launched. Torrent Script is a private tracker that fills a void in the BitTorrent community. It’s a site that focuses on web development related content such as CMS, website templates, fonts, scripts (Ajax, PHP, etc), clone scripts, plugins, vector graphics and more. Although a brand new project, web developers, designers, software engineers, graphics designers, students or mere enthusiasts of any of these subjects should find Torrent Scripts a handy tracker to have. If you were wondering, yes premium content which you otherwise have to pay for is available for free on this tracker :P

Launched on the 1th of February 2010, Torrent Script is only three days old. However, it’s not a ghost town with 0 torrents and 5 users unlike most other ambitious new projects (not saying it’s bad to start small). TS on the other hand already indexes close to 200 active torrents and has a 750 strong registered user base. Considering the fact that this is a niche tracker, these are excellent stats. I haven’t seen this site posted in any other BitTorrent forum so far and TS’s stats are expected to further improve as the word spreads around the BT community.

As said earlier, what makes Torrent Script unique is the type of content it tracks. Although there are direct download link forums such as TemplateP2P that cater for this niche, there aren’t many torrent trackers (apart from the likes of GFXNews) which focus on web and graphics development related torrents. Most of the torrents found here are non scene p2p originated content. This includes both individual releases as well as collections of related torrents aka packs. The screenshot below will give you a better idea on the type of torrents found on Torrent Scripts:

Although we cannot predict the future of any torrent tracker due to the volatile nature of this community, Torrent Script is a site that’s already shown a lot of promise. Appz Bitshock – Private Tracker For Windows & Mac Software (Now With AutoUploader)

There are thousands of private BitTorrent trackers out there but specialized software trackers are really scarce. We covered some such sites in a previous article but Appz Bitshock deserves a separate review – the site has improved a great deal since we last mentioned it and it’s without a doubt one of the best software trackers around. Appz BitShock currently tracks both Windows and Mac software as well as tutorials & E-books for various applications.

In addition to the autouploader, ABsk recently launched their own IRC channel on popular server irc.p2p-network.net. You’ll get 15MB upload credit every 15 mins if you idle on the channel. ReFuX – BitTorrent tracker for audio appz and music editing/authoring software

If you are interested in music editing/music authoring, here is a private BitTorrent tracker that you might find useful. ReFuX.us initially began as a new audio production tracker based on Gazelle, which specialized in audio applications, music authoring tools and music editing software. It still tracks somewhat similar content to trackers such as Audiotracer, AZT and AudioNews but expect this to change soon. Site rules have been updated recently and now any type of Windows and Mac applications (not just audio related appz) are now allowed on ReFux.us.

This tracker is about 1 month old (as of 29/6/09) and during this time it’s attracted close to 850 members. Close to 300 torrents have been uploaded as well. Download speeds seem to be generally good and if the notice on homepage is correct some of the torrents are seeded using a seedbox.

As for the content on ReFuX currently the tracker is full of audio related appz. However according to new site rules all types of applications are allowed: “we accept all types of applications for windows or mac as uploads, no movies and no music!". At the time this post is being written, ReFuX is open to the public. However the current poll on the site hints about the site going invite only pretty soon (poll question is Should we go invite only at 1000 users? to which 80% of the responses have voted ‘Yes’) so if you are interested in joining this tracker, do it now. SmartApps – New private torrent tracker for Windows, Mac, Linux software

We’ve posted about many private torrent trackers on FILEnetworks Blog but there have only been very few articles on dedicated software (appz or application) trackers such as Appz BitShock, Appzuniverse, LinuxTracker and TuxDistro. SmartApps is a private torrent tracker specializing in software for Windows, Mac and Linux platforms. It’s the sister site of Dynamic-Universe, a new general tracker we reviewed earlier.

As we said SmartApps is quite new and has only around 260 members (at the time this post is being written). There are however over 400 torrents indexed on this tracker. Majority of the content comprise of scene releases of Windows applications. Additionally, there are some Mac, Linux appz as well as smaller PC games available on SmartApps.

One thing I noticed is that even though this tracker currently has a small user base, most of the new torrents have 4-5 seeders each. This is adequate (and better than some general trackers which have 1 seeder on every torrent) and provides satisfactory download speeds most of the time.

LinuxTracker and TuxDistro – Two sites to download Linux related torrents

Many know BitTorrent as a way to get access to pirated material easily and quickly. Actually it’s more than that; it’s a very effective distribution medium for any type of content. LinuxTracker and TuxDistro are two primes examples.

They are both BitTorrent trackers that specialize in Linux related torrents and most of the stuff they track are available for free on the net. But instead of having to scavenge the net and cope with slow download servers to get your daily dose of Linux apps, you can use LinuxTracker and TuxDistro which present you with a large index of Linux related torrents, well seeded and ready for your taking.

Description: LinuxTracker is another public torrent index with their own tracker. Registration is optional. They track over 1100 torrents and due to the optional registration it is not clear how many actually use this tracker. Judging by seeder/leecher stats on the site, LinuxTracker user base is huge (currently 26000+ seeders on 1100 torrents with a Seeder : Leecher ratio of 2.53).

On a side note, you may have noticed that there is a site named LinuxMafia.net. This is not a Linux related tracker at all (in fact their ‘Linux stuff’ category has 0 torrents, how ironic). It’s a General/0Day tracker and a quite good one at that too.

Appz Bitshock signups open – Dedicated software/0day torrent tracker

Appz Bitshock is a private torrent tracker specializing in general appz and 0day software releases. Don’t expect to find movies or music here as this is a specialized tracker which is dedicated to tracking PC and Mac software, much like Appzuniverse. Appz Bitshock is a spin off tracker run by the same folks behind popular general tracker bitshock.org.

Appz bitshock has not been online for that long but there are already close to 5000 members on it. This tracker tracks over 3000 torrents, including scene release as well as user uploads. Appz Bitshock does have quite a few packs as well:

Gfxnews signups open – Torrent tracker for Graphics, animation, 3D content, Related apps and tutorials

Gfxnews is the sister site of Audionews (which is also open at the moment). Gfxnews is a community and a torrent tracker which has a lot of graphics design related content. This includes 3D content, Graphics editor apps, 3d animations and related apps, Tutorials and e-books on graphics design, fonts, templates, photostock content and the likes (see categories section below to get a better idea). In short, if you are even remotely interested in graphics editing/design or 3D animation, this tracker is a must have.

Gfxnews is a tracker based in Russia. The content however is in English. It’s a forum based tracker with over 50000 active members. Signups are currently open and if you are interested you can get in for free without an invitation.

Yesterday we posted about Pro Audio Torrents which is a parivate tracker specializing in audio apps and related tutorials. Today, another well known tracker in the same niche just opened signups. Audionews is a Russia based torrent tracker specializing in Audio Apps, Sample Libraries, Tutorials, Sheet Music and other stuff related to digital music. Although the tracker is based in Russia, its content is English. Audionews is a forum based tracker and has over 90000 members at time of this post.

Both Audionews and its sister site Gfxnews are currently open for signups. They are usually closed for new users and only opens up once every two months or so. If you are into editing, authoring digital music or even DJying , this tracker is a must have.

This is the sister site of AppzUniverse (which is also open right now). Although the name Pro Audio Torrents may imply that this is yet another music tracker, it is not. Pro Audio Torrents does not track actual music albums or songs, but it does track a lot of applications and e-books that are used in music editing and creation. AppzUniverse signups open – Torrent tracker for Software and Tutorials

AppzUniverse is a private torrent tracker dedicated to tracking PC/Mac applications, Tutorials and other software related content. It’s undoubtedly one of the best dedicated appz trackers out there. You won’t find any movies or music torrents here but you can basically find any application ranging from Operating Systems to Media Players on AppzUniverse. There are also a good number of software related E-books, training manuals and many other goodies (See categories section below for more details).

Private Tracker Watch: Bitshock Appz - Dedicated PC/Mac/Linux/Mobile appz tracker

Bitshock certainly are expanding. They've up to now launched a general tracker, games tracker (which has been offline recently) and now a dedicated appz tracker. Appz Bitshock is a private torrent tracker specializing in applications for various Operating systems such as Windows and Mac.

There are just under 3000 registered users on this tracker and around 1900 torrents. Apart from software, related ebooks, wallpapers and web templates are also tracked by Appz Bitshock. One issue i had with the tracker is that most torrents are left with only 1 seeder. This will hopefully be resolved as more and more users join the tracker. Apart from that Appz Bitshock seem to be a nice appz tracmer so don't forget to check it out - signups are open.

The content ranges from system utilities such as Norton 360 to application development training videos. Appzuniverse tracks nearly 2500 torrents and has a user base excess of 10000.
