Gigapedia Moves to Library.Nu – E-Book Downloads Now Open To All

When it comes to free E-book downloads online, there isn’t any other site on this planet larger than Gigapedia. Gigapedia has a huge repository of nearly half a million Ebooks relating to various categories both educational and non educational. The site is used by hundreds and thousands of users daily and plenty of new titles get uploaded each day. As you may have guessed, it’s not only free stuff that you can find on Gigapedia – thousands of premium, paid books are shared on the site, with actual files being hosted externally on one click hosting services. While Gigapedia has remained unchanged for the most part during the last couple of years, it seems to be undergoing several major changes right now. GP seems to be moving to a new domain and is now accessible by the URL http://library.nu. As some of you may have noted, Gigapedia was closed for public registrations in the last couple of months. If you were looking forward to open registrations, there’s even better news - All downloads on site are now open to the public and accessible by even unregistered users.
UPDATE: After a brief downtime the site is back online. Registration and login system is now working – signups are currently open.

Library

The new site, Library.nu is still being developed and the move is not yet complete. An official new post states:

2010-12-02:
Welcome new users and ex-gigapedia users!
gigapedia.com is currently moving to our new home here at library.nu,
the process will take some time, and new features are being added daily as well as thousands of new entries,
in the meantime feel free to use search (above) to search among the 420,000+ entries or browse the featured list (below).
user registration and posting will be available in a few days, all sorts of features are being tested in the meantime.
all site updates @nulibrary
Cheers
Smiley

Right now there are several notable differences between old Gigapedia and new Library.nu. Some of the popular usability features such as category based RSS feeds, browse by category option and categories themselves are missing in the new layout. Currently the only alternatives for searching for a particular book of your choice remains to be inbuilt search bar and browsing through the featured books section. Search is pretty accurate but old Gigapedia fans will no doubt miss the categorized lists. As for RSS,there is a single combined feed available (http://feeds.feedburner.com/nulibrary) which updates whenever a new book download is added to the site.

There are positive aspects of the new system as well. For instance,  Library.nu’s close to half a million downloads are now open to everybody whereas in the previous system only registered and logged in user could access them (and registration was closed for the most part). The site has seen a lot of improvements since its launch on 1st of December and lots of new features are expected to be added in the coming days as well. You can actively keep track of site updates via the official Twitter feed http://twitter.com/nulibrary.

Special thanks to Michael for the heads up.

Direct Download Horror Movies & TV Shows From Horror Haven Forum

We recently featured several sites that promote sharing of horror themed content. These articles were well received by our readership and we even got several requests to feature more similar sites on the blog. As always, we listen to what our readers say. Having already posted about several private BitTorrent trackers specializing in Horror movies/TV such as THC, Henteles and Horror-World, we thought of posting about a DDL forum this time. Horror Haven (HH) is a site that allows you to download Horror Movies, TV shows, soundtracks plus even books and magazines relating to the genre. This is actually an excellent alternative to HorrorFlix.ws, the now defunct forum which was considered the king of Horror DDL back in its time (HH is unofficially named Horror Flix 2.0). Horror Haven is currently open for registrations and is accepting new members.

We are not exactly sure when HH started out but it sure did rise to fame after the demise of HorrorFlix. Lots of former HorrorFlix members moved to HH after the site went down and needless to say this gave HH a huge boost in many aspects. Today, Horror Haven has evolved to become one of the largest direct download link forums for horror themed content, with over 5000 releases in its index.

As for the downloads available on HH, it’s pretty straightforward and there is very little to explain. The site is home to thousands of movies, TV shows, games, books, magazines and soundtracks all relating to the Horror genre. Video collection is particularly impressive and contains both old and new movies, including some very rare flicks. Releases are available in a wide variety of video formats ranging from VHSRips, 300MB movies to even DVD-R and BD/HD Rips.

Horror Heaven Index

HH is powered by a PHP-Fusion based forum script and the site layout might differ from other DDL forums you use. Some of you who are new to the site may even have trouble locating the downloads section. It’s actually pretty simple once you get used to HH. First of all, you won’t be able to see anything unless you log in. Once you do log in, you can easily find the categorized list of available downloads on the ‘Articles’ section (accessible via left sidebar). If you are looking for a particular movie by name or simply want to browse through all available releases, you might want to check out the immensely useful ‘A-Z Index’ feature (also accessible from left sidebar).

In the categorized downloads list, you may find some cat names ending with the text ‘Leeched’. Anything tagged ‘Leeched’ simply means that direct download links for that particular release were obtained from an external source i.e. from another forum. Releases in any other category than ‘Leeched’ are uploads by HH’s own uploaders – these uploads are technically unique to the site.

If you are interested in joining HH (which you should be, if you are a Horror fan), registrations are currently open. Use the links below to sign up and browse the site.

Magazines Download – PDF Magazines With DepositFiles & Hotfile Links

A couple of weeks ago we posted an article about StoreMags, a release blog for all kinds of magazine downloads. While the site indexed a ton of mags, it received quite a bit of criticism from our readers primarily due to two reasons; 1. It indexed a lot of adult themed magazines. 2. You had to purchase premium membership at a certain one click hosting service to download some files. If StoreMags didn’t suit your needs, here’s another free magazine download site that you might find useful. It has a much cleaner interface and is free of adult content. The site is updated on a regular basis and true PDF files viewable on both PC and iPad are indexed, along with Hotfile and Depositfiles download links.

Magazines Download

Just like StoreMags, Magazines Download is modeled after a release blog. New uploads are posted as separate articles and latest issues can be seen on the site homepage. If you are looking for older releases, there are multiple ways to search for them. You can either use the search box on top right corner of the page or you can look up the release in site Archive which is accessible from top toolbar. An even cooler way to discover new magazines is the ‘Root category list’ (located on the right sidebar). As you may have guessed, this is a magazines index categorized by genre. Clicking on a specific category will take you to a page which will look something like the screenshot below. It’s a in fact a well organized view which gives you easy access to all available issues of a certain magazine with the click of a button.

Magazines Download Index

‘Magazines Download’ appears to index magazines from all parts of the world. However, some of you would be glad to know that majority of these releases are English, US published content which are hugely popular. As we mentioned earlier, downloads are hosted on one click hosting services such as Hotfile and Depositfiles – you can download files from these services even if you don’t have a paid/premium account. Downloading is pretty straightforward and no registration/log in is required.

musiCore Launches Torrent Tracker & FTP For 0-Day Scene Music Downloads

Up until now, musiCore was known amongst the file sharing community as a site which offered direct download links (DDL) to scene released music albums. However, thanks to the recent changes and new features implemented by musiCore staff, this impression will soon change. It’s no longer just a DDL forum – the site has morphed into a hybrid download engine which now offers three ways of leeching music; DDL, torrents and FTP links. For those of you who’ve never heard about musiCore, it auto uploads scene released music albums to file hosting services (and now to a torrent tracker & FTP) so that they may be downloaded by the general public. In fact, a recently pre’d SceneNotice (more info in previous article) identified this site as a ‘0sec HTTP Site Mirroring to Public’. For those of you are interested in joining, basic membership registrations are currently open.

Musicore

Although musiCore is not as popular a source for music downloads as What.Cd or Waffles.Fm, it’s actually doing a great job in terms of adding new content. Around 350 new albums are uploaded by the service on a daily basis – that’s a lot of music and you don’t often see that much of new content on other similar DDL/torrent sites. And the fact that you now get to choose *how* you are going to download the files (DDL/Torrent or FTP) should make the service even more popular.

But are all these for free? Well, most of it is, but to access some features of the site, you need to get promoted to advanced members group or become a donor. Actually the user class system and membership requirements on musiCore can be a little confusing so we have presented it in a more simplified form below:

  • musiCore is currently open for registration. Anyone who gets is through open regs will start as a ‘Basic Member’
  • Basic members have full access to DDL links.
  • Basic members do not have access to torrent downloads – However, they are allowed to upload (seed). Once you upload 1GB of data to musiCore’s tracker, you will get promoted to ‘Advanced Members’ group.
  • ‘Advanced Members’ have full access to both DDL and Torrent downloads.
  • Users invited  by existing musiCore members will automatically start out as ‘Advanced Members’.
  • ‘Advanced Members’ will all be awarded one invite each month (if they don’t have any invites left).
  • FTP access is for donors only. While ‘Advanced Members’ can log into the FTP server and view directories/files, only donors can actually download. To be honest, this part is basically a pay-to-leech operation.

musiCore offers two ways of browsing their massive index – a forum based system where music releases are organized into threads (http://musicore.net/forums/index.php) as well as using a searchable index (Log in and visit http://musicore.net/). In addition, a separate page where all DDL links (sorted by date) are added, is also available at http://musicore.net/ddl. At a glance, the forum system appears to be more user friendly – main index takes some getting used to but this too comes in very handy at times.

musiCore index

Screenshot above shows part of musiCore’s searchable index. Through the ‘Link Mode’ drop down, you can switch between modes of leeching. If you select ‘Default’ or ‘Filehoster’ options, you will be given DDL links on remote one click hosting services (click on a release name –> this will display a yellow colored box with a link –> click this and you will be directed to album download location). If you choose ‘Torrents’ from the drop down and click on an entry, the browser will immediately start to download the .torrent file (you may also start the torrent download by clicking on the number of seeds for a particular release). FTP links work pretty much the same way, provided that your user class has the necessary permissions. There are lots of additional features in this interface and we recommend you play with it and find out for yourself :p

As mentioned earlier, registrations for musiCore are currently open. Those who sign up through this method will start out as Basic Members.

Site Name: musiCore (http://musicore.net)

Registration URL: http://musicore.net/forums/index.php?app=core&module=global§ion=register

Forum URL: http://musicore.net/forums/index.php

Tracker/DDL/FTP Searchable Index URL: Log in and visit http://musicore.net/

All In One DDL Releases Index URL: http://musicore.net/ddl/

For basic members – How to upload data to musiCore:

  1. Download a music album to your hard disk from another source i.e. a torrent site or another DDL.
  2. Locate the same album release on musiCore. Download the torrent.
  3. Once you have the torrent loaded in your client, change its data directory so that it points to the location where you placed files you downloaded in step 1. Your torrent client will now re-check the data and start seeding the torrent (if files match).
  4. You can seed several albums at the same time. Once you seed 1GB+ data to musiCore’s tracker, you will be promoted ‘Advanced Member’ user class.

StoreMags – Release Blog For iPad/PC Magazines In True PDF Format

Over the years, we’ve come across many different release blogs which announce scene and P2P releases to the public. However, I don’t think we’ve ever featured a release blog dedicated to announcing new magazine releases. StoreMags is a site which does exactly that – it indexes latest issues of popular international magazines. These are freely downloadable and are in true PDF format, allowing them to be read either on your personal computer or on a portable device such as the iPad. Unlike some magazine download sites that we have come across, StoreMags is not full of obsolete crap. The collection here is pretty impressive, with some world renowned issues such as PC World, Macworld, Hello!, PC Magazine, etc being actively indexed.

StoreMags

At a glance, StoreMags looks like your average release blog – a separate post is made for each magazine , along with a brief description, a screenshot and of course, download links for the full PDF version. You can customize the view to a grid based layout instead of the default individual post structure. This is excellent for browsing through new releases quickly and we highly recommend you switch to this view. To change the view, locate the ‘Select View’ drop down in top right corner of the page, and set the value to ‘Grid’. Some of the indexed magazine covers, as shown in the Grid view are seen below:

StoreMags magazines

There are all sorts of magazines indexed on StoreMags, ranging from Computer mags to Cooking, Fitness and even History related titles  – official statement is there are over 39000 files indexed (which we can’t verify). Uploads are categorized based on type of content and you can easily browse through these categories from the right sidebar. Note that some adult themed magazines are also indexed here.

As you might have guessed, StoreMags does not host any of the PDF files on their own servers. What it offers instead is a verified, reliable download link pointing to a file that’s usually hosted on a one click hosting service. So far, I have not come across any broken links on this site.

Storemags is a freely accessible site that is open to the public. Registration is not required to download any content.

PreScene – A PreDB With Direct Download Links For Scene 0Day Releases

After a series of private tracker open signup and invite application updates, here’s some DDL forum news for a change. Over the years, we’ve featured a number of DDL forums on this blog, most of which cater to specific niches such as music, movies, games, documentaries, etc. While these are some very special sites indexing unique content, several of our readers had asked us to feature more sites with scene 0-Day releases. PreScene is one such DDL forum that indexes latest scene releases along with download links to listed releases - all sorts of uploads ranging from zero day software to TV shows can be found here. In fact, this site acts both as a release log (pre database) as well as a download link repository – most scene pres are listed on PreScene and most of these releases even come with direct download links (based on one click hosting sites), making this much more than a web based pre channel.

PreScene

PreScene is not a site that started yesterday. It’s in fact been around for more than one and a half years and indexes a whopping 686493 releases as at 13/10/2010. For those of you still wondering what this site is all about, quoted below is the announcement made when it officially launched:

Our aim is to create a large database of Pre'd releases from within the Warez Scene and offer you download links to them. We will list both our local links and external links (other warez sites).
Please do note though, all sites we link to are clean and will not affect you in any way.
Anyway, have a browse around and see what you think. We'll be developing this site throughout the long future ahead and hope to bring you the latest releases, fast.

When it comes to actual operation, PreScene pretty much does what’s stated above. The home page lists latest releases pre’d online by scene groups. If you click on one of these, you will be taken to a detailed description page which has release information, download links offered by PreScene as well as download links extracted from external sites (in the Link Search Results section):

prescene screenshot

PreScene does not provide internal download links for all indexed releases. However, some releases do come with them and this appears to be the work of an automatic uploader bot. A list of most recent releases that came with download links is always accessible from http://prescene.com/new_downloads.html page. If you can’t find any internally provided download links for a particular release, you may still be able to download it through ‘Link Search Results’ which are one click hosting links extracted from external sites. While these links are not as reliable as internally provided downloads, they do seem to be pretty accurate most of the time.

PreScene Main Index
Image: Part of PreScene’s main index. The ‘New Downloads’ section lists last few releases that came with internal download links.

You can browse the pre database using the main index – the categories in top toolbar offer some level of filtering to results. To look for older releases however you’ll have to use the Pre Search feature.

PreScene is currently open for registration. Membership is not required to browse the Pre DB or to view download links – registration however is required to access the discussion forums. If you are looking for a PreDB with download links, check this out.

RetroMags Now With A New Look – Direct Download Old Video Game Magazines

We’ve been constantly featuring new BitTorrent trackers in the last couple of weeks and as a result our DDL forums section was almost completely forgotten. To make up for the lack of updates in this segment, here’s a cool forum with some really unique content. Retromags is a DDL forum specializing in old video game magazines – yeah you heard correct, their goal is to digitally preserve popular video gaming related magazines (issued prior to 1999), for a new generation to enjoy them. Some of you might argue, what’s the point of reading magazines that are ages old – well if you are a true fan of video gaming (PC or Console), you’d want to revisit the golden age of gaming back in the 1980s and 1990s. Content on Retromags is pretty unique – I know only one other site (Out of Print Archive - await detailed review later) that indexes similar type of material. If you want to read some classic scanned magazine issues, check this site out.

Retromags

For those of you are hearing about this site for the first time, following description quoted from the ‘About’ page should give a quick understanding on what Retromags is all about:

Our mission is to preserve video game magazines from our past for the future generations to enjoy. While this site is small, our ideas and motivation are huge. We aim to not only digitally preserve these magazines, but also to provide you with as much information as we can on these publications. We pour our hard work into creating these digital magazines so that you can get that feeling of nostalgia when you read an article you haven't seen in 20 years. We fully support the magazine industry and as such, we do not provide anything besides a cover for post 1999 material.

This is not the first time Retromags is featured here on FILEnetworks Blog. We posted an article about the site back in 2009 – lots of changes have happened since then and we felt that it deserved another mention. First thing you will notice is that Retromags now comes with a more polished look and easy to use interface. For example, the downloads section is now easily accessible from the top toolbar itself. It’s not only the looks that have changed since 2009 – lots of new content has also been added. RM now indexes over 700 full magazines, probably making it the largest repository of Classic gaming mags on the planet.

Retromags Index

As you can see from the screenshot above, magazines are grouped into three main categories – US published, UK published and International releases. Each of these have sub categories, under which multiple issues of a particular magazine are indexed. A wide selection of mags ranging from now discontinued Atari Age, Blip, Mega to early issues of Electronic Gaming Monthly, Computer Gamer, etc can be found here. Most of the releases appear to be scanned issues in .CBR format (How to open CBR files) – note that these are full magazines with all pages intact. Verified download links are listed in the download page of each magazine – these usually point to one click hosting sites such as Megaupload. I did not come across any broken links on this site yet.

Retromags is a private community – you need to login in order to enjoy full benefits of the site. Public registrations however are currently open. If you are interested, a free account can be created any time.

FraMeSToR-HD Forum – Home Of FraMeSToR, FLAWL3SS & The Revolution Release Groups

Lately there’s been a lot of talk about P2P release groups setting up their own private trackers and forums to distribute exclusive material. For example, the P2P movie release group iMAGiNE recently launched their own private tracker – apparently many people seem to ‘dig’ this type of sites and it’s been quite a hot topic of discussion on various file sharing forums and blogs such as FST & FSF. Anyways iMAGiNE tracker is not the first of its kind and nor is it the only site run by a P2P release group. There are countless others including tpsBB (Nhanc3 releases) HD-UNIT3D & BIT-UNIT3D (UNIT3D releases), Darkside_RG (aXXo & several other groups), PeerAccess (T0XiC releases), etc that are run by P2P groups. Today’s post is about another similar forum; FraMeSToR-HD (FHD). It’s home to well known movie encoding group FraMeSToR. FHD forum gives you advance information on upcoming encodes from FraMeSToR, FLAWL3SS and The Revolution (RVL - untouched Blu Ray release group), allows encoding requests and even group recruitment.

Framestor Logo

For those of you who haven’t heard about FraMeSToR before, here’s a brief description of them (quoted from a FHD forum post published back in mid 2009):

It is time to reveal our cloak of secrecy! Many of you have been wondering what our group is about, and who we exactly are.
FraMeSToR is a new high quality movie encoding group. Some of our group members are in fact ex-EuReKA members but of course not all. We have welcomed some of these EuReKA members with open arms simply because they have great encoder skills. FraMESToR is a new name in the high quality encoder tracker scene, and we wish that our encodes are welcomed on all trackers. (feel free to contact us!). We are internal encoder on chdbits, but you can find our encodes on many other trackers, simply because you guys still know how to recognize quality and spread our releases! Thank you for that!
If you wish to discuss our encodes or want to see what's in store for you, simply visit
http://framestor-hd.org

FraMeSToR is no longer an internal group at CHDBits – they moved onto bit-HDTV and later onto HDME, which is the group’s current home ( read this article if you want to read full announcement on moving to HDME – HDME is currently closed for signup but most of our readership should have accounts there thanks to the recent open signup). FraMeSToR has strong ties with FLAWL3SS and RVL (The Revolution Blu Ray release group) and as a result both these groups have release index threads on FHD forum.

Framestor index

At a glance, FraMeSToR-HD might look like yet another DDL forum but it’s not. In fact, this forum does not index any download links at all (actual releases are uploaded to either bit-HDTV (old) or HDME (new) ). This is more like a pre-release environment where upcoming releases are listed, checked and validated before being uploaded to a private tracker. Release threads on FHD maintains a list of upcoming FraMeSToR, FLAWL3SS and RVL encodes along with screenshots and full NFO. In addition, the ‘FraMeSToR HD’ section of the forums let you make requests, stay up to date on group news and even join FraMeSToR if you have the skills. The forum has a very good tutorials section which has plenty of useful resources on video encoding, playback guides and so on.

Registrations for FHD are currently open and interested members can instantly sign up for an account. It’s not a fully fledged direct download link forum as other sites mentioned in our DDL Forum section but if you are a fan of FraMeSToR, FLAWL3SS or RVL release groups, you might want to check this site out.

Bolt.Org Now Open For Registration – Huge DDL Forum & Link Sharing Community

This came as quite a surprise for me but apparently Bolt.org is open for registration once again. Bolt is a huge direct download link (DDL) forum or a link sharing community where you can download everything from movies, music, software, games, E-books audiobooks to TV shows, music videos and even magazines. Bolt claims to be the world’s first link sharing forum – it’s been around for ages and is currently home to a huge community of over half a million members sharing download links every day. If you tried to become a member of this site during the last few months, you’d have noticed that new registrations were disabled. Good news is that they have now been re opened. This re-opening was done without much noise and it doesn’t seem like many people are even aware of it yet – but yeah, it’s real and Bolt is open. In case you still aren’t a member, this is a great opportunity to get into this awesome forum.

Bolt.Org Logo

There really is nothing much to say about this site in terms of member activity and content – it’s excellent. As of 18/09/2010 Bolt had an active user base of 581000+ registered members who had created over 300000 threads. What’s great about the statistics is that vast majority of those 300k+ threads are actual releases – there are very few spam threads and other unrelated topics on this site. Almost every open topic leads to something that you can download :p

As for the content indexed on Bolt, it pretty much has everything – scene releases, P2P releases as well as exclusive user uploads such as re-encoded movies and TV shows which you probably won’t find anywhere else. This includes nearly 30000 movie threads, ~15000 TV threads, ~70000 music threads and ~12500 E-book threads among dozes of other categories. Basically it’s an all in one solution for all your downloading needs. A screenshot capturing some parts of the main index and downloads sections on Bolt can be seen below (these threads are only visible to registered users):

Bolt Index

Bolt.org functions pretty much like any other DDL forum. It does not host any of the files on its own servers. Files are hosted on various one click hosting services such as HotFile, RapidShare, Megaupload, etc and only the download links are posted on Bolt’s threads. These links are reliable, non spam and fake free (we recommend you use JDownloader to download from this site – it works great on one click hosting links).

Registrations for Bolt.org are currently open. As we said earlier, they did not accept new members during the last few of months so this should be a great opportunity for those who waited in line to get in. Although there was no official announcement, re-opening is real – it was confirmed by one of the admins on the forum itself. However, we are not sure till when the open signups would continue – doors may remain open for a few days or they may close in the next few minutes. Get in while you can.

Cartoon World – One Of The Best Forums To Download Cartoons, Anime & Manga

Apparently we have a lot of Cartoon fans among our readership. The recent article about Neptoons tracker (which is still open btw) & CNS Forum resulted in several E-mail requests to feature a direct download link (DDL) forum for all sorts of cartoons not limiting to certain niches. Although we have already posted about several such sites in our DDL forums section, here’s another great site where you can download plenty of cartoons. Cartoon World (C-W) is a direct download link forum specializing in all sorts of animation – this includes regular cartoons, anime, manga and even soundtracks of popular animated series. A wide misconception about C-W is that it’s an anime only forum – while the site does index of a lot of Japanese animation, it also hosts a huge library regular cartoons including Classic toons made in the golden age of American animation as well as latest CGI animated, US based shows.

Cartoon World Forum

Compared to niche sites we have already featured such as Classic Nick Shows and DCMovie, Cartoon World is a bigger forum catering to a much larger scope of content. It currently has around 29000 registered members and nearly 13000 open threads, making it probably the largest cartoon download forum in the world.

Anyways if you join C-W you probably won’t care how many members it has – you’d most likely be interested in the amount of downloadable content available. Thankfully, Cartoon World has plenty of stuff to satisfy almost every cartoon fan. From regular cartoons to anime (Japanese animation), there is a huge library of animated content here. You can access all these shows in the ‘Download Area’ of the site.

Cartoon World Index

As you can see from the screenshot above, downloads are broken into several categories. Note that the term ‘Cartoons’ on C-W refers to forms of animation not created in Japan – that is, non Anime. If you are looking to download a particular show, I suggest you navigate to the ‘Download Index’ under ‘Anime & Cartoons’ section – this threads has an alphabetical listing of all indexed shows, making it easier to find what you are looking for.

Cartoon World shows

Screenshot above highlights some of the shows indexed on Cartoon World. Most of these are non scene releases that you probably won’t find on your favorite BitTorrent tracker. If that’s not enough exclusive content right there, Cartoon World has a separate section (‘C-W Content’ in Download Area) which is full of their own internal releases. Take my word for it - there’s some pretty rare content here folks.

If you are thinking of joining C-W, it's pretty easy. This is not one of those secret communities that are out of bounds to regular readers – Cartoon World is open for registrations and you can create an account directly without the need for invites, interviews or invite applications.

DCMovie & Classic Nick Shows Merge – One DDL Forum For Disney, Nickelodeon Cartoons

Some of you might remember DCMovie.org, a direct download link forum which we recently featured. DCMovie was a niche forum which offered downloads to hundreds of Disney cartoons as well as original Disney movies. While the site was an excellent resource for cartoon & live action series fans, it unfortunately ran into troubled waters sometime last month. DCMovie’s forum (which contained all the download links) was removed from it’s previous domain and was forced to move to a temporary host. Thankfully, this rather unstable arrangement (they were hosted on Byet, a free hosting provider) did not continue for long – DCMovie finally found a new, more stable home and moved under the wings of Classic Nick Shows aka CNS (as we have mentioned before, CNS is a veteran DDL forum that specializes in all Nickelodeon shows). With the recent merger, CNS has now become a one stop resource for those looking to download both Nick and Disney shows.

Classic Nick Shows

Out of these two forums, Classic Nick Shows is probably the older and more popular site. It’s part of a network of cartoon related forums, BitTorrent trackers (afaik, they are affiliated with Neptoons tracker) and IRC channels and has a very experienced group of staffers behind its operations. CNS currently has over 6500 registered members and indexes over 2500 releases. Although smaller than CNS in several aspects, DCMovie too was a strong community back when it was online. At last check, the site had over 1500 registered members and indexed around 1000 Disney shows including movies, cartoons and live action series (to see how DCMovie looked when it was online, read this post).

With the merger, CNS has now become ‘the’ place to download both Nick and Disney shows. CNS’s downloads section which already indexed several hundred live action shows, cartoons and game shows aired on Nickelodeon network has received a boost with the migration. Almost all the releases posted at DCMovie which included Disney channel original movies (DCOMs), Disney toons and live action series have now been moved to CNS’s new Disney downloads section. A screenshot showing part of the forum index at CNS can be seen below:

Note that the downloads sections are only visible for registered members. Speaking of registration, if you don’t already have an account you can always create one now as the site is open for signup.

Note that if you were an old DCMovie member, you’ll still have to create a new account as user accounts were not migrated to CNS.

ForeignMoviesDDL – Forum To Download Non Mainstream Films, Foreign Movies & More

Let’s face it – there are more than a few places on the internet that offer latest Hollywood movie downloads. We ourselves have covered several specialized BitTorrent sites that cater only to movies and movies alone. However, there doesn't seem to be a lot of buzz for sites offering downloads to non mainstream movies or films released outside the US and UK. Is it because there aren’t such sites ? Not really – there are plenty of trackers and forums that cater to this type of content – they just aren’t as popular among the masses. Today’s article is about ForeignMoviesDDL, a direct download link forum that specializes in non mainstream movies and foreign movies from across the world. You can find download links to thousands of English and non English movies on this site, including some rare content not usually found on even the largest of movie trackers.

ForeignMoviesDDL

Although you may have never heard about it before, FMDDL is not a new site at all – it’s been around since 2007 and indexes around 10000 movies from different regions of the world. With nearly 11000 registered members, this site has a decent user base as well. At a glance, FMDDL appears to be a release blog with a rather unattractive layout. Although you can search for and download movies using this interface, the real value of this site lies in the forum underneath. If you visit http://forums.foriegnmoviesddl.com, register and log in, you’d find that it’s a fully equipped discussion board with categorized threads offering direct download links to thousands of movies (DDL links are often files hosted on Hotfile, Rapidshare, etc – they all work great with JDownloader).

Speaking of the content indexed on FMDDL, it’s all movies. However, don’t expect to find the latest Hollywood blockbuster flicks here. Indexed films are categorized into 5 mains sections based on the region they originated from; North America, UK, Australia and New Zealand (English, non mainstream movies), South America & Africa, Europe & Russia Southern, Western & Central Asia and finally Eastern & Southeastern Asia . There is also an additional category titled ‘Silent Movies, Documentary & Others’ which is pretty much self explanatory. Each of these forum sections have a main index ‘stickied’, making it easier to find what you are looking for. An individual thread for a specific movie is usually pretty detailed with screen captures, plot summary and of course, download links. Seen below is an screenshot of FMDDL’s main index:

Foreign Movies DDL Index

Getting into FMDDL is not hard at all – the site is open for registration and is currently accepting new members. If you are looking for non mainstream English movies or films produced outside the US, this is without a doubt a great site to have.

HD-Dump - DDL Forum For HD, BRRip, MicroHD Movies, TV Series, Sports & Documentaries

Over the last couple of months, we’ve featured quite a few Direct Download Link (DDL) forums specializing in HD content in this blog (HDMania, x264-BB, HD-UNIT3D to name a few) . HD-Dump is a brand new entrant to this particular niche and so far the site has done pretty well. It indexes all sorts of HD (and some non HD) content ranging from 720p, 1080p movies, BRRip, MicroHD and untouched TrueHD movies, TV shows to documentaries, anime and even sports. This includes scene releases as well as user uploads not usually found on the usual places such as scene torrent trackers, etc. HD-Dump is a clean forum with no advertisements, zero password protected files and no masked or encrypted download links. For those wanting to get in, registrations are currently open.

HD-Dump

It’s been a few months since HD-Dump launched – there hasn’t been much hype about it in the community but the forum has slowly been gaining momentum. It currently has 1700+ members and 1200+ threads – not too bad for a niche forum just starting up. The site seems to be run by an experienced staff panel who’ve had previous experience with moderating other DDL forums. According to one of the site’s administrators, HD-Dump was created to serve as a forum dedicated to user friendliness and cleanliness:

Sick of password trouble, RARs inside RARs, and wasting time searching for a single movie among duplicate threads?
Here's what you'll find at HD-Dump: none of those common download annoyances for end-users.
1. No passwords whatsoever allowed in any files.
2. All files must be single extraction.
3. Each movie has only 1 thread. You want to post your links? Post it in the existing thread.
Having a one-thread per movie rule makes a forum much easier to browse and much easier on the eyes. When looking for a specific movie, you shouldn't have to go through a dozen threads to find what you're looking for.

As mentioned earlier, HD-Dump tracks a lot of HD content including 720p, 1080p movies as well as untouched, TrueHD Blu Ray movies. In addition, the site indexes some non HD content such as BRRip and MicroHD movies as well as HDTV shows. A screenshot capturing some of the available content categories can be seen below:

HD-Dump screenshot

HD-Dump seems to be very well maintained and moderated, so movie threads are kept updated, and dead links are removed almost immediately upon being reported. The forum is ad-free and very clean. There is little limitation to what mirror links can be posted (as long as the links are direct), although there is zero tolerance for spamming and posting infected content.  You won't find too many Rapidshare links at HD-Dump right now, but Hotfile, Megaupload, Netload and even Fileserve seem to be pretty popular here.

Registrations for HD-Cump are currently open – if you are interested, you may create an account without the need for an invite code.

SoundArea – Huge DDL Forum For Music Albums, Singles & Music Videos

I have been a member of SoundArea for several months but only really got the chance to check out the site yesterday. I signed up long ago as per a tip sent in by one of our readers but for some reason missed out on trying out the site after signup was complete. Since then, I’ve been getting weekly E-mails from them and these usually read something like “300 new albums were uploaded to SoundArea today”. Now 300 albums is quite a lot to be uploaded in a single day - after getting several of these, I finally decided to check what the fuss was about. For those who are confused – SoundArea is not a BitTorrent tracker – it’s a direct download link (DDL) forum. It indexes download links to full music albums, single tracks, radio shows and even music videos. The site is huge, both in terms of user base as well as content – if you download music online, this is a destination you’d not want to miss.

SoundArea Logo

SoundArea is not some newbie forum that launched yesterday - it’s been online for nearly 4 years, since 2006. During these four years, SA has managed to amass a huge user base exceeding 230000 members. Needless to say, activity is pretty high on this forum with over 413000 threads currently online. For a site to attract this many number of users, it has to have something special. SA indeed looks attractive to those who seek to download music, especially as the site indexes several hundred new music album releases every day.

Both scene and non scene content (this includes user uploads added in response to the requests sections on site) is indexed on SoundArea. You can find music related to almost any genre here – in fact the main forum has ~40 sub sections, one each for a different music genre such as Rock, Pop, House, Trance, Techno, DnB, Metal, Punk, Ska and many more. In addition to music albums & single tracks, SA indexes a lot of radio shows and music videos as well. Screenshot showing part of the ‘Genres’ section on main forum can be seen below:

Soundarea Index

Something I noticed while browsing the forum was that they heavily advertise their VIP program (you need to donate to become a VIP) – for example, there is a special page on SA which lists all new music releases uploaded in a particular day. Full access to this feature is only available to VIP members. Non –VIP members can of course download latest albums – but they’ll have to discover them by browsing the main index.

As it is customary with DDL forums, SoundArea does not host any of the music files itself. These are uploaded to one click hosting sites such as HotFile and only the verified download links are shared in the forums. These are pretty reliable and I did not come across any broken links so far.

SoundAre has always been a forum that’s friendly to new users – it’s currently open for registration and anyone can create an account. In addition to open signups, SA maintains a good social presence with their official Twitter and Facebook pages.

x264–BB DDL Forum Says Goodbye To RapidShare, Embraces Hotfile

In the last couple of years, the leading one click hosting service RapidShare was hugely popular among uploaders on various Direct Download Link (DDL) forums. However, with the recently announced changes to RS’s rewards program (link – read second post), this might soon change. Several leading DDL forums have already ditched RapidShare for other services and the latest site to join the club is x264-BB. For those who don’t know what x264-BB is, it’s a popular forum for m-HD (MicroHD), 720p and 1080p movie encodes with a lot of exclusive releases (for a detailed post on this forum with registration info, read the full review located here). It appears that all of x264-BB’s internal encoder groups have decided not to upload any of their releases to RapidShare anymore. Their new upload destination? Hotfile.

x264-bb

The site’s decision to abandon RS is explained in detailed in a forum post (which is quoted below):

This is an official notice to all members of x264-BB.com that Encoders Group will no longer providing Rapidshare download links. After much discussions, Encoders Group had came to an amicable decision that only Hotfile links will be supplied in all future new releases.
Question: What about existing Encoders Group releases?
We will be deleting all current Rapidshare plus other mirror links on x264-BB, only Hotfile links will be supplied.
Question: Are we allowed to make request for other mirrors?
No. We do not allow any mirrors to be made from now. Do not ask for mirrors in the forum, you will be banned as you had been officially notified.
Question: Hotfile sucks for Free Users, why is Hotfile a better choice?
Because Megaupload sucks for its rewards program and extremely frustrating for uploading management. Encoders Group wants to spend more time on providing better quality releases rather than to waste time on sorting out missing uploaded files or unable to find the uploaded files in MU's File Manager. Hotfile's FTP upload has much faster upload speed and more stable than Netload's FTP upload. Netload's storage is frequently proned corrupted files and unrecoverable files due to hard disk crashes and never been able to recover and again, Netload's reward program is nothing compared to Hotfile's.
Question: Why not consider other file hosts such as SharingMatrix, FileServe or x7.to etc..?
See for yourself: http://i30.tinypic.com/2s9btbc.jpg
Hotfile has the biggest reach to global users than any of the file hosts compared.

While Hotfile is indeed a good one click hosting service, it does have several restrictions for free users.

  • Limited download speed
  • Maximum parallel downloads limited to 1
  • 60 second wait time
  • Downloads restricted to 1 file per 30 minutes
  • No support for download accelerators, download resuming, direct linking

In addition, the download speeds on Hotfile are reportedly slow for some regions in the world. The thread on X264-BB announcing the change has met with some interesting responses with some users suggesting Megaupload, etc in place of Hotfile. However, the admin panel’s decision has so far been unchanged and judging by their responses it’s unlikely to change in future as well. Note that this change would only apply for releases by x264-BB’s internal encoder group – there are no hosting provider restrictions on user uploads and members are still free to use whatever service they prefer, including RapidShare.

On a side note, x264-BB is currently open for registration. This forum indexes m-720P, m-864P, m-HD, m-DVD, 720p and 1080p movies along with TV shows and documentaries. They have a lot of exclusive releases not found elsewhere, thanks to their internal encoder group. A detailed review of x264-BB can be found here.
