Docs Torrents E-Learning Tracker Now Open For Signup

As predicted, lots of private torrent trackers appear to be opening signups this Christmas season. Latest site to join the party is Docs Torrents, a veteran E-Learning tracker that’s been online for more than 5 years. Docs, also known as DocsPedia, tracks hundreds and thousands of eBooks, premium documentaries (both SD and high definition videos), tutorials and other educational and infotainment material not usually found on regular torrent sites. Although docs used to open registrations quite frequently in the past, there hasn't an open signup for the last several months (which prompted us to do two invite giveaways in the meantime :p ). Anyways if you are a student, professional or an avid fan of documentaries looking forward to join this site, good news is that you can now register for a free account without the need for an invite.

Docs Torrents

Docs Torrents is a tracker of Romanian origin. However, almost all of the indexed torrents are English and will appeal to any English speaking user. Note that this tracker is handled by a very experienced crew in the BitTorrent scene. Behind the Docs project are moderators / staff / administrators from the community portal Torrents.Ro who are also behind other well known private trackers such as RsR (Open), LastTorrents (Open) and Freshon.TV. As of 23/12/2010. Docs tracked 4500+ active torrents and had a very strong user base of 26000 registered members.

Despite it having a large user base, content is this tracker’s primary attraction. If you are looking for E-learning content such as educational E-books, tutorials, test engines, sample papers, etc you’d feel at home on this tracker. Docs will also cater to those who are looking for infotainment content such as premium documentaries and other related videos both in standard definition and HD. In addition to individual releases, a number of exclusive packs are also available for download.

Docs Torrents Packs

For those concerned with the looks, Docs has a great looking AJAX based layout which is fast, uncluttered and easy to navigate. It looks a lot similar to the layout of Freshon.TV and LastTorrents (if I am not mistaken, all three trackers have the same codebase), is very responsive and gives a user friendly feel to anyone who browses the site.

As mentioned in the title of this post, registrations for Docs are currently open. The max user limit has been raised to 30000 and there are a further 4000 free spots available (provided that signups remain open till this cap is reached) .

Special thanks to Bugatti for the heads up.

Other trackers in the Torrents.Ro Family currently open for signup:

TheGeeks.Bz – New E-Learning & Documentary Private Tracker From TBZ Crew

Among the thousands of private torrent trackers that are online, there aren’t many sites dedicated to tracking E-Learning and infotainment content. This particular niche is primarily dominated by a handful torrent sites such as BitMe, Docspedia and BitSpyder. If you are interested in joining a similar site, here’s some great news – TheGeeks.Bz has finally launched. TG.Bz is the latest project by TBZ crew, the awesome folks behind hugely successful private trackers such as The Box, The Vault, The Place, The Empire and The Occult. Although primarily an E-Learning tracker with video tutorials, books and test engines, that’s not all you’ll find on The Geeks. In addition to educational material, it indexes all sorts of infotainment content ranging from History channel documentaries, music tutorials to even magic torrents. Signups are currently open and trust me when I say this – you don’t want to miss out on this tracker.

The Geeks

As it is always the case with any TBZ tracker, the official launch of The Geeks has been a massive success. You won’t see any fancy welcome messages on the homepage except for the text “ End The Lack of Knowledge! - Remember, remember the 8th of September” (8th being the official launch date of TG.BZ). The site looks highly polished and it already tracks over 2000 active, well seeded torrents. Thousands of users have registered on the site during the first day of open signup itself and many more are set to join as the news spreads to BitTorrent forums and blogs. Although only a day old, The Geeks feels like a veteran community buzzing with activity.

Just like other sites in the TBZ family, The Geeks is a specialized tracker. One might call it an E-Learning torrent site but it’s actually much more than that. In addition to educational content, you can find a lot of general infotainment releases such as documentaries, lifestyle related books and even some really rare stuff such as magic torrents. Torrent categories range from computer science, business, engineering to fine arts, do-it-yourself (DIY), music tutorials, Sports and Phys, etc. Note that these are not torrents that are commonly found on other trackers – there are some rare, exclusive, unique releases on The Geeks and it’s these torrents that greatly enhance the value of the site. Anyways it’s very difficult to explain the scope of TG.BZ through a simple blog post such as this – you’ll have to become a member and browse the site yourself to understand what the hype is about. Either way the screenshot below should help get you some idea on the sort of content available:

The Geeks Index

While ‘The Geeks’ may index a lot of rare torrents, it thankfully is not one of those secret sites that aims to hide from the public (or make it insanely hard for new members to get in). TG.Bz is currently open for registration and you can directly sign up for an account without the need for an invite code or having to go through interviews or invite applications.

Site Name: The Geeks (http://thegeeks.bz)

Signup URL: http://thegeeks.bz/signup.php

Open registrations will not continue forever so get in while you can – as we said before, this is a site you should not miss.

Other sites in TBZ Family

With the launch of ‘The Geeks’, there are now 6 private trackers in the The.BZ family. Use the ‘Full Review’ links below to find more information and signup URLs of these sites.

eBookVortex, ElbitZ & Free The Textbooks – 3 E-Learning Trackers Open For Signup

It’s been a while since we featured an E-Learning torrent tracker on this blog. Most trackers in this niche such as BitMe and BitSpyder are almost always closed to public signups. However, that doesn't mean E-learning trackers that have open signups are non existent. This article summarizes information about three such sites that are currently accepting new members without the need for invite codes. One of these sites, ElbitZ, is a pretty large tracker which indexes almost 10000 torrents – content on ElbitZ ranges from electronic books to test engines, test kits and even video tutorials for a number of different subjects. eBookVortex and FreeTheTextbooks on the other hand are smaller sites but track a lot of Ebooks (including text books) that aren’t found elsewhere.

ElbitZ

Site Name: ElbitZ (http://elbitz.net/)
Signup URL: http://elbitz.net/signup.php
Stats: ~9900 torrents
Description: A long standing E-learning tracker, ElbitZ tracks everything from Ebooks to complete test kits, video tutorials, etc. Note that this tracker is not all about tech stuff; there is even content related to music, dating and languages as well as many other ‘general’ categories. Signups are usually open once a month.

eBookVortex

Site Name: eBookVortex ( http://www.ebookvortex.com )
Signup URL: eBookVortex ( http://www.ebookvortex.com )
Stats: 31000+ users and 1650+ torrents
Description: This one used to be one of the best Elearning trackers back in 2008. However, several long downtimes and URL changes has set this site back but this by no means is a dead tracker. Although the daily influx of new torrents as somewhat stemmed, EBV still lives and tracks a considerable number of Ebooks. Read full review for more information.

Free The Textbooks
Free the Textbooks

Site Name: Free the Textbooks (http://www.freeetextbooks.com)
Signup URL: http://www.freeetextbooks.com/account-signup.php
Stats: ~1200 torrents
Description: Now that PureTorrents has disappeared without a trace, Free The Textbooks is one of the very few textbook trackers that are online. However, it doesn't look like this tracker has a bright future ahead of it either – only a handful new torrents are added every month and activity is not that great. ABTorrents – A Great Audio Book Torrent Site

Torrent sites that track audio books are not new to this blog – we’ve already covered some leading names in this niche such as My Anonamouse, Bibliotik and CatTorrent. Anyways here’s a promising new specialized private tracker that caters for audiobooks and audiobooks only; ABTorrents. ABTorrents tracks a wide range of content including fiction, children’s books, adult novels, science fiction and books relating to many other topics - mostly non educational content. After entering the BitTorrent arena several months ago back in 2009, ABTorrents has recorded some impressive growth. The site has built both a strong enough community and a rich torrent index and shows signs of becoming another BitTorrent success story. Signups are currently open and if you are a fan of audio books, you might want to check this tracker out.

Audio Book Torrents

As of 3/5/2010, ABTorrents currently tracks 1200+ torrents and 4400+ active members. You can’t yet compare these stats with long standing trackers such as My Anonamouse but ABTorrent’s growth in the past couple of weeks has been quite impressive. Not only has the site been adding a lot of new members but it has managed to quickly push the total torrent count past 1000 as well (and this is no easy task either, especially when it comes to a niche tracker).

Speaking of the content found on ABTorrents, there is no need to retell the fact that it’s full of audio books. The most important fact is that while most trackers tend to focus on educational content, ABTorrents has some widely sought after titles in fiction, literature, fantasy, science fiction, horror, comedy and other (non E-Learning) related categories. To get a better idea on what sort of content you can find on this tracker, have a look at the screenshot below:

Audio book torrents index

As you can see above, most indexed audiobooks are encoded in MP3 format (at various bitrates). There are no specific rules governing the audio quality of an upload and even ACC, OGG, FLAC, M4A, etc files are also allowed.

Right now signups for ABTorrents are open. Currently, the site does not appear to have a maximum user limit set so it can be assumed that registrations will remain open for some time. If you are a fan of audiobooks and want to be a part of a growing tracker, don’t forget to check this site out.

Docs Torrents Invite Giveaway 01 – E-Book and E-Learning Tracker (100 Invites)

Back in last December, we featured an article on the return of Docs Torrents. It didn’t take a lot of time for Docs to return to their former glory – the site has once again became a great resource for documentaries, E-Learning material and Ebooks with a rock solid user base and a content rich torrent index. When we last featured this site – it was open for public signup. However registrations closed somewhere around the 24th December 2009 and the site has since been invite only (invitations are scarce even for high rankings members and there is no open signup on the horizon yet). However thanks to Docs Torrents sysops, we have 100 free invites to give away to our beloved readers. If you missed out on the open signups a few months ago, here’s another chance to get in.
UPDATE: We have received over 100 requests. Please do not send any more emails – this giveaway has now concluded.

Docs Screenshot

Before we move on to the invite giveaway, here’s a little rundown on what Docs has to offer. If you are looking for E-learning content such as educational E-books, tutorials, test engines, sample papers, etc you’d feel at home on this tracker. Docs will also cater to those who are looking for infotainment content such as premium documentaries and other related videos both in standard definition and HD. Activity on this tracker is pretty great with over 24000 registered members and 3800+ active torrents. By the way if you have a look at tracker stats, there are around 10500+ disabled users. In other words you don’t fuk around on Docs - follow the rules, be active or get banned.

Docs has a great looking AJAX based layout which is fast, uncluttered and easy to navigate. It looks a lot similar to the layout of Freshon.TV and LastTorrents (if I am not mistaken, all three trackers have the same codebase) and gives a user friendly feel.

Docs Torrents Index

If you are waiting for Docs Torrents to open signups, don’t hold your breath. This is what was posted on the site when it went invite only about 5 months ago:

Starting today, the sign-up is closed for... like forever.
Some invitations will be given in a few months. Please don't start asking yet WHEN or HOW MANY.
Until then... take good care of your accounts.

This is where our invite giveaway comes in. We have a limited number of invites at our disposal which we as usual will be giving away free for our readers. All you have to do is to send us an E-mail with the following format:

  • Subject of the E-mail should be ‘Docs Invite 01’. We use an automated software to filter the mails so don’t get this wrong.
  • In the body of the mail, please include
    1. Link to the profile page on a private tracker of your choice– for example http://docspedia.org/user.php?id=2447424
    2. A current (should not be more than 1-2 days old) screenshot of the same profile page you linked to above. Screenshot should be un-cropped and un-edited.
  • Send your email to invites[dot]filenetworks[at]gmail[dot]com

The invitations will be given away on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. That is, first 100 E-mail requests that meet all of the aforementioned requirements will be responded with a free invite( please allow one week for the email to receive). If you applied through the open signup last December and got disabled for some reason (inactivity, etc), please do not request another invite here.

Once you receive the invite code, please go to the signup URL below to create an account.

Signup URL: http://docspedia.org/signup.php

We have over 12K visitors a day and we know that 100 invites are not going to be enough for our entire reader base – please understand that our supply of invites are limited and this is all we can offer right now. However we will be conducting additional giveaways in the future so keep checking back if you didn’t receive one in this round. Advance notifications on upcoming giveaways are sometimes communicated via our Twitter feed – you may get access to this information if you follow us on Twitter (or you can keep an eye on the Twitter widget on right sidebar of this blog – this always displays the last Tweet from our feed). Instant blog updates may also be received by subscribing to RSS.

ScienceHD Invite Applications Will Open On Christmas Day

This Christmas just keeps getting better and better for fans of torrenting. In addition to the many number of private trackers that have already opened their doors to new members, here’s another popular tracker which will soon start a fresh recruitment drive this season. ScienceHD will be opening questionnaire-based invites on the Christmas day and qualifying members will be invited to the site by Sci-HD staff themselves. If you don’t know already, ScienceHD is a private torrent site specializing in science fiction movies, TV shows, documentaries and other related infotainment content and is without a doubt one of the best private torrent tracker to be launched in 2009.

ScienceHD

We’ve mentioned about this tracker in about 5 of our articles and some of our readers might think it’s overrated. However, we believe that SciHD truly deserves the attention. They’ve risen from being a relatively unknown private tracker at launch to a site that can rival BitMeTV in terms of science fiction/documentary content, in less than an year. Sci-HD currently tracks close to 3900 torrents spanning across 775+ series/authors and if you are into Sci-Fi/Documentaries chances are high that you’ll love the content.

Speaking of content, it should be no secret to you that SHD is not a general tracker. Allowable content according to tracker rules is “Science, Science Fiction, and learning related videos, eBooks, magazines and Audio books. If a show is listed on IMDB, TVrage, TV.com, or TVguide as scifi, documentary, science, history, learning, etc., then it automatically qualifies”. MPAA rated content is not allowed. And as the name suggests, most of the videos/movies/TV series found on this site are in high definition (HD) formats (1080p/720p MKV, etc). Below is a screenshot of few of the many show categories found on ScienceHD:

ScienceHD Icons

ScienceHD is powered by Gazelle codebase and hundreds of available torrent categories are easily organized using tags, category icons, filters and more thanks to Gazelle’s strong organization features. If you don’t like the default theme you can easily switch to any one of the other 5-6 available stylesheets.

ScienceHD, like most other private torrent sites has a set of rules which every member must follow. We think it’s worth mentioning here two of the most important but often overlook tracker rules here:

You must download an average of 3GB per month, or else you will be disabled
All torrents must be seeded to a 1:1 ratio or for a minimum of 72hrs

Pay attention to the minimum monthly download requirement. SciHD will dump if you are not an active member. Thousands of users (including collectors) have been disabled in the past couple of months due to not following site rules so the first thing you should do once you become a member is to have a look at their rules section.

Anyways enough about the site details – now back to the topic at hand; invite applications. As mentioned earlier ScienceHD will open questionnaire based invites on the 25th of December and those who successfully answer the questions will be invited into the tracker.

Currently neither the nature of questions nor the URL which the invite applications will be hosted at has not been revealed. However you can be the first to know this information if you follow Sci-HD’s Twitter stream. If you are too lazy to create a Twitter account and become a follower, you can simply watch the updates manually by visiting the URL https://twitter.com/sciencehd. They WILL open on the 25th of December and don’t miss the opportunity if you are willing to get in – FFS we told you three days in advance :p

Site Name: ScienceHD (https://sciencehd.net)

Invite Application URL: N/A, Watch https://twitter.com/sciencehd for updates

Of course, FILEnetwork’s own Twitter feed will be updated as usual once the details are made public. You can follow/watch our Twitter feed using http://twitter.com/filenetworks or simply monitor the in-site widget on left sidebar.

Special thanks to spaceship9, infinity, shoomer and rest of ScienceHD staff for the info provided.

PureTorrents Is Back – Academic E-Book Torrent Tracker

There was a time when several new private torrent trackers launched to replace the gap left behind by popular academic Ebook tracker Textbook Torrents. However, most of these sites didn’t last long expect for a very few trackers such as PureTorrents. PureTorrents is a Textbook Torrents alternative that has been growing at an astounding pace over the past few months. However, PT was down for several days last week, making it’s loyal fans a little worried. There is however no reason to panic – PureTorrents has returned and the site is fully functional once again (looks like someone forgot to pay server bills :p ). Public signups are also still open.

We’ve been monitoring this site since the very beginning and PureTorrent’s growth has been quite impressive. After almost an year since launch one would have expected to see the flow of new torrents slow down but that hasn’t been the case with this site. Back in August 2009 when we last featured PT, they had only 8200 active torrents indexed. Just a couple more months later, this number has increased by 3000+ new releases, taking the total torrent count well over 11000. User base has also grown to a respectable number and PureTorrents now has over 5500 active members registered on site. When we first reviewed PureTorrents back in April 2009, the site only had 1200 torrents and 175 members.

As far as content goes, PureTorrents tracks torrents across a number of different topics such as information technology to even literature. We suggest you use the ‘Browse tags’ feature on main toolbar to get an idea of how diverse the content on this site is. Most of the torrents on PT however are non fiction/educational books and not many works of fiction are indexed, making it an idea tracker for students and professionals. And it's worth mentioning that audiobooks are not allowed on this tracker.

PureTorrentsScreenshot_thumb1[1]

We have already featured this tracker twice on previous occasions but if you still aren’t a member, it’s not too late to sign up. PT is currently open for signup and if you are looking for a decent, fast growing Ebook tracker, this is as good a choice as any.

LearnBits Open For Signup - E-Learning Torrents

After a flurry of bad news about tracker shutdowns, here’s an open signup update for a change. LearnBits (LB) a well known E-Learning torrent tracker has opened public registrations after several months. If memory serves correct, last time we posted about LB was back in 2008. Since then, we’ve been hit with a large number of invite requests (even on months old articles) for this tracker, depicting the high demand it has in the BitTorrent community. This limited open registration period should be a great opportunity for all those who craved to get into this great private tracker.

learnbits_thumb2[1]

During the past few months, a lot has changed at LB. And a lots more improvements are on the pipeline. As you may be aware, LearnBits currently runs on TS Special Edition tracker script. They are however planning to move to a new codebase, namely a heavily modified TBDEV source. Some of the category icons and site logo have already changed and the site is already looking a lot better.

Anyways LB has never been a tracker about looks. It’s known for it’s content rich torrent library which indexes a number of E-Learning, Educational torrents spanning across a number of categories ranging from information technology to medicine. E-books, video documentaries, test engines, magazines are just some of the stuff you’ll find on this tracker. A part of LB’s torrent index can be seen in the screenshot below

LearnBits Index_thumb[2][1]

As of 30/11/2009 LearnBits tracks around 4000 active torrents. It has around 7500 registered members which is a strong user base for a specialized tracker. Site’s current user limit hovers around 7700 members. Speaking of user limit, there are only around ~160 free spots remaining on LB (unless the current cap is increased). When this limit is reached, public open signups will close. Signups were opened for a limited time anyway - A note on site states “In light of several popular trackers closing this week LearnBits will open its doors to new members for a brief time”. So if you want to be part of this great Elarning tracker, you better hurry.
EDIT: User limit has been increased to 7800. Kudos to MtnVision.

Bibliotik Open For Signup – Fiction/Non-Fiction E-Books, E-Learning Torrents & More

With the return of Docs.Torrents.Ro and the launch of DocsBits, these appear to be great times for E-Learning trackers. Here’s even more good news on this front – Bibliotik, a Gazelle based private tracker for E-Books (fiction, non fiction and educational), magazines, comics, etc has opened public registrations in a rare move. Having conducted a few invite giveaways for Bibliotik we can tell you one thing – demand for this tracker never decreases. We have given away close to 1000 Bibliotik invites via our giveaway threads and we still get new requests almost daily. For everyone who missed out on previous giveaways, here’s a golden opportunity – get in without the need for an invite during open signup.

bibliotiklogo_thumb5[1]

As we have highlighted many times before, Bibliotik has seen some great improvements over time – not a big surprise considering the experienced crew behind it (mostly the same folks who bring you Cinematik and Asian DVD Club). The site’s torrent index has expanded to 14150+ active torrents from ~10500 a about 2.5 months ago. If this trend of rapid torrent submissions continue, Bibliottik will soon catch up with the likes of BitMe and BitSpyder ( which are arguably the two best E-Learning trackers in existence ) in terms of content.

Having said that, Bibliotik probably shouldn’t be labeled as an ‘E-Learning’ tracker as it’s not limited to educational stuff. In addition to E-learning content, Bibliotik indexes non fiction & fiction E-books, text books, journals, huge comics packs, magazine packs/full issues sets, individual magazine and comics releases and of course, Audiobooks. E-books/Magazines are usually in either PDF, LIT (Microsoft Reader) or TXT formats while Comics are packed in CBR (Comic Book Reader) archives. Below is a screenshot which shows part of this tracker’s torrent index and interface:

Bibliotik Index

If you didn’t know already, Bibliotik runs on Gazelle codebase. There are some interesting site features such as Collections, ‘Authors’, Publishers, Advanced Browse, Tagging, etc most of which are powered by Gazelle’s great organizational capabilities. Right now there is only one theme available – this can be customized to your liking.

Anyways as mentioned in the title of this post Bibliotik is currently open for signup. This will be for a limited time so make use of it.

Site Name: Bibliotik (http://bibliotik.org)

eBookVortex Is Not Down – Site Has Changed URL

If there was an award for the ‘private tracker that changed its URL most number of times’, eBookVortex may probably win it. If you were a member of this well known E-Learning tracker and tried to access the site via its old URL (http://www.ebookvortex.net), you’ll notice that it’s no longer accessible. Yep – you guessed correct – they’ve changed the URL for what seems like the millionth time. Anyways it’s not a big deal – no data has been lost and all user accounts, torrents and ratio stats remain unchanged. However if you were downloading a torrent from EBookVortex, you’ll have to re-download it to continue seeding.

ebookvortex

Following is a mass E-mail sent to all existing members of the tracker:

New URL is http://www.ebookvortex.com

Everyone will need to redownload the .torrent to continue seeding.

- eBookVortex Staff

If I remember correctly, EBV used to have this very same domain a few months back before they switched to ebv.net. Anyways if you are downloading or seeding any torrents downloaded when the site had the old domain, you’ll have to re-download them since tracker address too has changed with this latest move.

eBookVortex has been around for ages but lately,it hasn’t been the most active E-Learning tracker, specially when compared to the likes of PureTorrents. However it still does track a significant number of torrents (~1000 including packs) and has a decent user base of 16000 members. You can read more about eBookVortex and see screenshots here, in our recent review of it. If you are not an existing member of EBV but interested in getting in, signups are still open.

Docspedia E-Book & Documentary Torrent Tracker – Docs.Torrents.Ro Returns!

Great news for lovers of E-Learning & infotainment content. As we previously revealed via Twitter, Docs.Torrents.Ro has returned. Docs.Torrents.Ro was once a hugely popular private torrent tracker for E-learning content. To the disappointment of many of its users, Docs shut down back in last April leaving many stranded in the seas of BitTorrent. Now here is the good news – after almost 7 months of downtime, the site has returned in grand style. It now sports a brand new look, an overhauled codebase and runs on a new domain. Name of site remains the same (Docs) and their tagline (‘Knowledge Overdose’) too remains unchanged. Some of the most experienced staff/admins in the BitTorrent community are behind this project so expect more good things in the future from new Docs.Torrents.Ro.

Docs.Torrents.Ro

As you might have already guessed, Docs is a private tracker from Romania although it mostly tracks English content. It’s a veteran BitTorrent tracker that has a history of over 4 years. What’s even more great about the return of Doc’s is that the site has retained user information as well as forum posts since the time of shutdown (if you can remember your old username but not the password, you can recover it). With sites like Docs returning and new trackers such as DocsBits being launched it’s looking pretty good for those interested in E-Learning/Documentary niche. Staff of the tracker remains largely unchanged from its previous incarnation. Behind the new Docs project are moderators/staff/admins from the community portal Torrents.Ro who are also behind other well known private trackers such as RsR (Romanian ShareReactor), LastTorrents (Open) and Freshon.TV. The owner too remains the same – new Docs is run by the same admin who ran the old site (and did an extremely good job of it considering he ran the site without donations). New site’s welcome message reads:

After some time offline, we are back.
Let's continue what we started so long ago, so... start uploading, seeding and learning !

Apparently, the folks behind the tracker haven’t been sitting on their asses doing nothing for the past few months; there are lots of improvements and new features visible in the new Docs.Torrents.Ro. First of all it now sports a sleek new interface that’s lightning fast to navigate and very user friendly. With a torrent browse page with multiple panels, the layout looks like a hybrid of Freshon.TV’s and LastTorrent’s interfaces (which is a good thing). Docs’s codebase seems to have been revamped as well – current one looks more optimized with faster loading times and error free navigation.

Docs.Torrents.Ro screenshot

As of 12/11/2009 there are around 525 torrents indexed on the tracker. Considering the site has only been online for about 1-2 days, this is a great achievement (torrent index is is being rebuild from scratch). Expect this number to increase rapidly as days progress – there are a lot of new torrents being added daily. Content on Docs ranges from video documentaries to E-books and spans across multiple categories including education, infotainment and lots more. Scene releases as well as lots of P2P uploads are indexed.

No matter how excellent a site is, it would suck if new users cannot get in easily. Well you shouldn’t have any problems getting into the new Docs as the site is currently open for registration (although we don’t know till when EDIT: There are around 20000 free spots left, as we were told by the admin). If you love E-books and documentaries, you’ll definitely love this tracker. Check it out.

DocsBits – A New E-Learning Torrent Tracker

E-Learing torrent trackers have always had high demand in the BitTorrent community. There are so few of them and it’s usually not easy to get into the ones that are around. But here is the good news – DocsBits is a brand new E-Learning torrent tracker. The site is only a few days old and so far it looks very promising. Even though we called it an ‘E-learning’ tracker, DocsBits does not seem to be limiting itself to educational torrents. In addition to educational content the site seems to index fiction, documentaries and even magic related books.

DocsBits

DocsBits is a private tracker from Romania. Romania is known for its many 0Day trackers but specialized trackers based on the country are a rarity. DocsBits somehow reminds me of Docs.Torrents.Ro, an excellent Romanian E-Learning tracker that shut down a while ago. Anyways DocsBits being a ‘Romanian’ tracker doesn’t mean it tracks Romanian content. Actually, majority of the site’s content are English.

At the time this post is being written, DocsBits was only 4 days old. During the first 4 days the tracker had managed to add close to 450 new users and 110+ new torrents; impressive stats indeed for a E-learning start up. But users and torrents are not all that’s been changing. When I logged into the site today the visual style and category icons had all changed (for the better). By the way, it seems to be based on the TBDEV tracker script.

Docsbits Screenshot

As you can see from the screenshot above, DocsBits is not limited to educational content; it’s categories list defines 20 different topics ranging from medicine to hacking. And it’s not just E-books either – video documentaries and even applications are tracked.

Signups for DocsBits are currently open – you don’t need to go through interviews or hunt for invites. If you want to check out a new ELearning tracker go ahead and register. It’s too soon to say whether DocsBits would be a success but so far, things have looked good.

My Anonamouse – Great Private Tracker For E-Books, Audiobooks and Music Tutorials

I'm just wondering why we didn’t post about this site earlier. My-Anonamouse is probably one of the most underrated private trackers ever. Many people brand this as an E-learning tracker but IMHO it’s much more than that. Actually I don’t know of a category to place it on as My Anonamouse caters to several different types of content. If you are a book lover, you’ll find a lot of E-books and audiobooks on this site (both fiction and non fiction). If you are a musician, you’ll find a lot of music tutorials, sheet music and so on. And if you are a fan of comics or graphic novels, you’ll find those here as well.

My Anonamouse Logo

With over 18000 registered users, My Anonamouse is a pretty large niche tracker (is as big as BitMe or BitSpyder in terms of user base). The torrent index is not so small either – there are over 14000 uploaded torrents. There seems to be a lot of focus on community which is composed of friendly members and staff. I think it would be correct to say that My Anonamouse is a family friendly site. Based on TBDev tracker script, this tracker has a very simple look and feel. You won’t find the features of Gazelle here but all the essential functions (including a bonus system) are there.

Content is where My Anonamouse really excels at. As we said before the site indexes a wide range of torrents ranging from electronic books to concert DVDs. Following explanation about available torrent categories is quoted from the invite application:

If you are a musician, you will find: Lick libraries, sheet music, instructional media as well as Concert DVDs.
For book lovers, we have an amazing selection of both audio and ebooks, ranging from current 'blockbuster' releases to those rare gems.
Our recently added Comic/Graphic Novel section is growing daily.

And if the above didn’t give you a pretty clear idea, have a look at some of the category icons available (and be awed):

My Anonamouse

Like most private communities, My Anonamouse is currently invite only. However, obtaining an invite is pretty easy as they have an online invite application. It doesn't have high entry requirements and almost all the questions are about site rules (you need to read rules and FAQ to get in – these pages are visible to non members). Once you are comfortable with the questions, you need to log into their main IRC channel and say the magic word (read invite application). Staff are friendly and most of you shouldn’t have any problems getting in.

PureTorrents continues explosive growth – Textbook torrents alternative

During the past few months, we featured at least two full alternatives to the now defunct TextBook Torrents tracker; Free The Textbooks and PureTorrents. Unfortunately, one of these sites (Free The Textbooks) hasn’t shown a lot of improvements – FTT  seems to have lost some torrents and there are hardly any new torrents being added to the tracker. Performance of PureTorrents on the other hand has been the complete opposite – during the past four months the tracker has added over 7000 torrents and attracted several thousand new members. In addition the site underwent some UI changes and several usability enhancement features too have been added.

When we first reviewed PureTorrents back in April 2009, the site only had 1200 torrents and 175 members. Now in August 2009, it tracks over 8200 active torrents and has a user base in excess of 4200 members. To put it short, PT is one of the largest academic/educational books trackers currently in existence.

PureTorrents Screenshot

Expanding the torrent and users databases is not all what PureTorrents has been doing in the past couple of months. They’ve added several new features too. The somewhat less user-friendly torrent index has got a facelift and now detailed information on each indexed book along with a book cover thumbnail is displayed. In addition, a new version of PTSort (a mod that can automatically extract book information from Amazon) is also due to be introduced soon (preview of this can be seen here).

If you are someone who is worried about having to maintain a mandatory ratio on a torrent site, here is some good news – PureTorrents does not have tough policies on user ratio requirements. Following is quoted from the homepage:

We field a lot of questions from members worried about their ratio.  You do not have to worry about your ratio.  We understand that as a book site, the chances that other people are going to want the same things as you are relatively small.  For the time being, we'd just like to see things better seeded and get some more content.

PureTorrents is without a doubt a great resource for students and professionals looking for electronic versions of educational and academic books (not just text books). Signups are currently open and you may register an account for free.

eBookVortex E-Book Tracker– It’s still here!

At one point, eBookVortex was one of the most popular E-learning torrent trackers in the BitTorrent scene. It had an excellent torrent collection which included some of the most popular educational books in electronic form. However the site’s popularity began to climb down mainly due to the various lengthy downtimes and crashes eBookVortex experienced back in 2008. There were times the tracker and site were offline for about a week. And during one such lengthy downtime, they even lost the user database and torrent index completely. Anyway if you were a fan of old eBookVortex, the good news is the site is still here – and it definitely does not seem to be a ‘dying tracker’.

ebookvortex new logo

As we said above, at one point eBookVortex had to rebuild their torrent index and user database from scratch. They’ve done a pretty good job of it actually – as of 17/7/2009 the tracker has close to 900 active torrents and over 10000 registered members. There are plenty of new members signing up daily but the number of torrents being uploaded daily could definitely see some improvements (especially with other similar sites like PureTorrents adding thousands of torrents in a couple of months).

As the name suggests, eBookVortex is a specialized tracker for E-Book torrents. Bulk of the torrents indexed are educational content related to Information Technology, Programming, Medicine, Mathematics, Electronics and so on. However there are non-education content such as Magazines, Cooking, Food & Wine related books, Fiction, etc available as well. There are some E-book packs indexed as well. The following screenshot captures part of the torrent index of eBookVortex:

ebookvortex screnshot

eBookVortex’s interface pretty much remains unchanged. There are two stylesheets to choose from – the default skin and NB-39 (more colorful) skin.

This tracker is currently open for signup. If you are looking for a decent E-book tracker, eBookVortex is definitely worth checking out. And if you thought this site was dead with all the downtimes and crashes, you are dead wrong.

BitMe E-Learning Tracker – Now with mathematics ebooks, tutorials and DVDs

Bitme.org is considered by many as the world’s best E-Learning torrent tracker. With over 18500 torrents in the index and 19000+ registered users, its also one of the largest E-learning trackers currently in existence. Apart from the usual flurry of daily new torrents, Bitme has recently added an entirely new category to the site titled ‘Math’. As the name implies, this category is all about Mathematics related stuff. You can find mathematical ebooks, tutorials (including video tutorials), test preparation kits and many more torrents in this section.

bitme

The following is quoted from a news post on site regarding the new addition:

May-24-09 - New Category

BitMe now has another new category that we hope will help members.
BitMe is happy to announce the MATH category...
yeah MATH!!!
Thanks to Yabood for the MATH category image.
also the category college lectures was using the TTC image, so the category has been renamed to match... you should now see TTC in the dropdown lists for that category.
enjoy
//BitMe staff

The ‘Math’ category is already seeing some serious activity with around 40 torrents being added in a single day (most of these packs and collections):

So there you have it - If you are a student, teacher or someone who has an interest in the field of mathematics, you now have a new reason to chase for a Bitme invite (the site is almost never open to the public).

Free Textbooks educational tracker - download coursework, exam papers, lectures & more

Over the past month or so, several new text book trackers have joined the BitTorrent scene. Initially we featured PureTorrents, a new textbook/academic torrent site that’s registered some rapid growth. Then a few days ago we introduced you to Bibliotik – a new library tracker with text books, ebooks and more. Today we are going to talk about Free The Textbooks, a fairly new site for college texts, coursework, exam papers, etc. Slowly but surely, these sites are slowly beginning to fill the large gap left behind by the demise of Textbook Torrents, world’s largest textbook tracker at one point.

free the textbooks

A short intro to Free the Textbooks! is given via the following notice, which is posted on site homepage:

Making the large scale theft of exam papers and textbooks so much easier. It might take a while, but we intend to become the biggest educational file sharing site full stop. You can help us by seeding.

Although this is a fairly new start up tracker just a few months old, it already has close to 1500 torrents indexed. There are both public and private torrents indexed – torrents tracked by FreetheTextbook’s own BitTorrent tracker as well as external torrents tracked by public trackers such as that of TPB’s. Obviously, ratio is calculated only for internal, private torrents.

The content on this tracker mainly comprises of text books, coursework, exam papers, children’s books, documentaries, lectures etc (see categories below for more information). The screenshot below captures some of the torrents indexed on Free The Textbooks!:

free the textbooks screenshot

Although the content is pretty good, Free the Textbooks definitely needs more users; most of the indexed torrents have 1 seeder. This is a common problem for more new Bittorrent sites and hopefully this will be rectified as the tracker gains more popularity over time.

Registrations for Free The Textbooks! is currently open. If you are interested in text books/academic material, check this site out.

Bibliotik – BitTorrent tracker for magazines, ebooks, novels, audiobooks & more

Ever since I heard about Bibliotik about 3-4 months ago, I’ve been visiting the site at least once a week to see if it had been launched. Initially I was even able to create an account there as registrations were open long before official launch. Then the beta was closed to the public and no visible improvements could be seen for the next few months. I even wondered if the project had been abandoned - how very wrong I was! Bibliotik has finally gone live after a long beta testing phase and it’s been well worth the wait. The end result is a one of a kind BitTorrent tracker that combines Magazines, textbooks, ebooks, comics, audiobooks, journals and even scholarly articles.

bibliotik logo

It’s only been a week since Bibliotik has officially gone online and there is already an impressive amount of 250 active torrents indexed. More torrents are being added every day. From what it looks like, the site runs on a heavily modified Gazelle source. Whatever it is, the interface and layout just works – it navigates faster, presents a lot of detailed information on the indexed torrents and integrates additional features such as Collections (something similar to packs – it groups related torrents together), Requests, Authors, Artists and Publishers. Oh and note that this is a project by the same crew behind the popular classic movies tracker Cinematik – they sure do know how to run a BitTorrent site.

Once Bibliotik grows into a decent size, the need for several trackers for comics, educational content, audiobooks and text books will be eliminated. Also, the BitTorrent scene has been needing a magazines tracker for so long – Bibliotik somewhat fills this gap too. To get a better idea on the content on this site, see the screenshot below (also note the amazing detail of indexed torrents):

bibliotik screenshot

And now the burning question - how does one get into this tracker? It’s currently closed for public registrations but getting a Bibliotik account is not that hard. Currently there are 3 different ways to do this:

  1. Via the recruitment thread on Cinematik – Over the course of the last few months FILEnetworks Blog has given away over 525 invites to Cinematik tracker in our invitation giveaways section. If you have an account at Cinematik, read this thread and send a PM to the specified user with your email address saying you want a Bibliotik invite!
  2. Via the IRC invites channel – You should be familiar with IRC invite channels by now and the good news is that Bibliotik has one. The channel name is #bibliotik-invites on IRC server irc.brokensphere.net.
    Direct Link: irc://irc.brokensphere.net/bibliotik-invites
If you are an IRC noob, read this article.
  3. Via the recruitment thread on What.CD – The popular music tracker What.CD hosts a recruitment thread to Bibliotik in their popular Invites section in the forums.

Whatever you do, make sure you specify your E-mail correctly (“IF WE DONT GET AN EMAIL ADDRESS we WILL IGNORE YOU! (Same goes for you suckers who spell Bibliotik wrong.”) ). Good Luck!

ScienceHD – Sci-Fi & Documentary Torrent Tracker - Open Signups Today

We sure do have a lot of promising new private torrent trackers popping up these days. Earlier we reported about a new Anime/Comic tracker Animatoonic and now we present you ScienceHD (SHD). ScienceHD is a Gazelle based private BitTorrent site which specializes in Sci-Fi (science fiction) movies, TV shows and premium documentaries related to science, nature, history, physics and lots of other interesting topics. Most of the content found on this tracker are in high definition (HD) format (1080p/720p MKV, etc). If you were looking forward to get into SHD, this could be your lucky day – it’s currently open for public registrations.

sciencehd logo

It’s only been a week since ScienceHD was officially launched and the site has already gotten off to a great start. SHD currently has a user base close to 800 members and tracks 350+ active torrents – excellent stats considering the site’s been closed to the public for the most part.

Speaking of the content on SHD, they can be grouped into two main categories;  science fiction movies, TV shows (entertainment) and documentaries & other educational content (infotainment). From TV shows such as Heroes, Eureka to HD documentaries from premium publishers such as Discovery Channel, National Geographic, The History Channel, SHD has something for everyone. Following are some of the torrent categories available on this tracker:

SHD categories

Unlike most other torrent sites, SHD is not full of scene releases found almost on every general/0day tracker. They do have a nice collection of unique and exclusive releases (this includes some great ebook packs in addition to the multimedia content) and their dedicated uploader/encoder team will see to it that this collection is continuously expanded.

Another point that must be noted is the download speeds on SHD. When you browse the torrent list, you might come across a lot of torrents with  1 seeder (this may change with the open registrations). Even though there is only one seeder, expect the torrents to have blazing fast download speeds - almost all torrents on SHD are uploaded using seedboxes.

ScienceHD has been closed to the public ever since it’s inception. However we hear from staff that the site is set to have it’s first open signup period sometime today (no one knows the exact time except the SysOP) EDIT: It’s open! All new users will start with a whopping 10GB free upload credit as well as 4 invites. Keep checking the signup URL because this site is well worth being a member of.

BitSpyder E-Learning tracker – How to get a free invite

Private torrent trackers that specialize in E-Learning content always have huge demand in the BitTorrent scene. Most of the good E-Learning trackers are usually invite only and getting in to some of the high profile sites such as Bitme is considered difficult. Here is some good news for those who are looking to get into a decent E-Learning tracker – you can easily obtain a BitSpyder invite from their IRC channel for free. BitSpyder is an excellent torrent site which tracks many E-books, test kits, test engines, video training modules and other content related to a wide range of categories both educational and non educational.
Update: BitSpyder has blocked invites so there is no point of joining the channel. “I'm not in the mood to screen 100 screaming noobs wanting invites”.

bitspyder

Also, the following is posted on the IRC channel:

Timed Message: All users joining for an invite.. such as those who have heard about us from a particular blog will not be successful. The channel is set to +m, and will remain so for several hours, or days if necessary. Current members can PM me with your username to gain a voice (allows you to speak). Password recovery/Banned users-> PM me your username and email.

Original Post: From my experience at BitSpyder, I'd say it’s an equally good tracker as Bitme which is considered as the best E-learning tracker currently online (I've been a member of both sites for more than a year). With over 23000 members and 8400+ active torrents, it’s one of the largest trackers catering this niche as well.

To get a glimpse of the content available on BitSpyder, have a look at the screenshot below (screen removed at the request of site administrators)

Now let’s get back to the main topic of this article – invites. Yes, you can get a free BitSpyder invite if you spend some time on their IRC channel. You might need to prove that you are not a hit and runner/cheater or any other scammer in order to be invited. For this you will be asked to provide a ratio proof from any tracker that you are a power user of and have a ratio above 1.0 (such preconditions may not always be the same – they usually depend on the inviter).

Step by step tutorial on how to get an invite:

  1. You’ll need to download an IRC client first. I’d recommend you download and install mIRC – download links and tutorial can be found here. (Or you may use a web based IRC client such as Mibbit)
  2. Once IRC client is set up, change you nickname to whatever nickname you want to have on BitSpyder tracker (in mIRC, nickname can be changed in Tools—>Options menu.
  3. Join the BitSpyder IRC channel. This is located on IRC server irc.bitspyder.net and the channel name is #bitspyder. If you are using mIRC click on this direct link irc://irc.bitspyder.net/bitspyder to instantly visit the channel.
  4. Once in the channel, type !rules and press enter to get the IRC channel rules via PM. Read them thoroughly because if you want an invite, you better not break any of these.
  5. Ask for an invite in the main channel (do not PM members or spam the channel). Wait for staff to respond.

As it has happened many times before, BitSpyder IRC channel will be flooded with users once this post is published. Staff will have their work cut out and you might have to idle for a long period of time on the channel in order to get invited. However the wait may be well worth it because eventually you’ll get into one of the best E-learning trackers currently in existence.

Good Luck!
