TV-Vault Tracker Now Indexes Over 2000 Classic TV Show Torrents

When you talk about top TV torrent trackers in the world, BitMeTV, TVTorrents.Com, Freshon.TV and BTN are usually the sites that come to mind. However, you don’t often see ‘TV-Vault’ being mentioned as a ‘top’ TV tracker. While TVV may not index newest episodes of modern television shows, it pretty much kicks any other torrent tracker in the ass when it comes to rare, classic, old series that are hard to find. Just a couple of weeks ago, this site surpassed the 2000 indexed TV shows mark making it one of the best online resources for retro TV content. “Because Chuck Norris Karate Kommandoes is clearly better than that Lost shit” was a tagline the tracker used when it launched back in 2008 – if you tend to agree, you might find yourself at home on TV Vault. For those who still haven’t become members, signups are open and around 1500 free slots are currently available.

TV Vault

A project started by the crew behind Cinemageddon, TV Vault has been online for more than two years. This was one of the first trackers to utilize the now famous Gazelle codebase and it remains to be one of the best Gazelle implementations you can find to date. Over the years, TVV has done pretty well in terms of member recruitment and expansion of the torrent index. It currently tracks 6000+ torrents related to 2200+ different television shows and the registered user base hovers somewhere around the 13500 mark.

Although most major TV torrent trackers do index classic TV shows to a certain extent, nothing ever comes close to the vast array of content found on TV Vault. From black and white TV serials made in the early 1930s to relatively new shows made in the 2000s, this site is a heaven for fans of retro content. TVV’s 6000 strong torrent index looks mediocre at first but there is actually a lot more content than it meets the eye. Most of these torrents are full season packs, each carrying around 10-20 episodes of a particular show – this would easily amount to 25000+ torrents on a regular TV tracker. Season packs are grouped together so that finding all available episodes of a show is very easy.

We know we have covered this site in the past and some of you might already be members there. In case you missed our previous article and you still haven’t got into TVV, registrations are currently open. The site has a max user limit of 15000 leaving around 1500 free slots up for the taking. If you like classic TV shows, this is a torrent site you shouldn’t miss.

TheEmpire.Bz – TV Torrents From Canada, Australia & Other Commonwealth Countries

If you have been reading FILEnetworks for some time you probably already know about ‘The.BZ’ tracker family (if you don’t then read this article). TBZ studios are the driving force behind four very unique trackers in the BitTorrent scene; The Box, The Vault, The Place and The Occult. This post however is not about any one of these sites; it’s about TBZ’s latest project, ‘The Empire’ (also known as TE). The Empire is a private torrent tracker for TV and radio shows. It however is not just another TV tracker indexing content you can already find on BMTV, TVT.COM and a dozen other sites. TE specializes in shows from commonwealth countries – television shows from Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and other regions may be found here. If you download TV shows over BitTorrent, you might want to keep an eye on this site – not only because it tracks rare content but because when it comes to creating specialized trackers, TBZ usually kick ass.

The Empire

An announcement of TE’s launch was made on its sister site ‘The Box’. Quoted below is a post by TBZ staff which explains the story behind ‘The Empire’.

Behind the scenes at TBZ Studios, we've been working on a new project that we're finally ready to unveil to the world...
TheBox has become one of the go-to places on the internet for your favorite British show cravings. We got to thinkin': "Wouldn't that be great to provide this awesomeness to users in other countries?"
Well, look no futher as we're proud to present: http://www.TheEmpire.bz.
TheEmpire, or TE for us lazy typers, will be dedicated to the finest television and radio broadcasts from the commonwealth countries; countries such as Canada, Australia, and New Zealand just to name a few. Here's a complete list of countries.
We've opened up 5,000 slots for immediate signup and we're offering it to users of TheBox first. So if you like your Commonwealth TV and Radio, go ahead and reserve your slot today at http://www.theempire.bz/signup.php and help us make it a great site!
So please look around, upload some shows you've got sittin' on the computer, and play in the forums.
This should be a whole bunch of fun!
~ t.bz staff

Although just a few hours into the final launch, TE already indexes around 125 torrents. Expect this number of rapidly increase in the coming days as news of the launch spreads in the BitTorrent community and TE’s uploader team expands. TV & radio shows including soaps, reality, travel, wildlife, documentaries, kids shows, drama, comedy, news, game shows, sports, talk shows, mystery, crime, etc from a number of different countries (full list of allowed countries here) will be indexed here. The screenshot below captures some of the torrents already indexed on TE:

The Empire Index

As stated in the forum post by TBZ SysOp (quoted above), public signups for The Empire will be open until the site reaches 5000 users. It’s good to see them trying to start off with a decent user base instead of restricting new registrations – being ‘too private’ can also lead to the downfall of a new tracker. Expect the free signup slots to be filled up pretty soon. TE will have the backing of thousands of users who are already members of the TBZ family plus this is likely to be a hot topic in BitTorrent news forums and blogs, which will drive more members to this tracker.

Special thanks to Peter Vig for sending us this news.

Note: If you would like to be part of others sites in TBZ network, all trackers including The Box, The Vault and The Occult (except The Place) are currently open for signup. You can find the signup URLs in this article.

ShareTheRemote (STR) – Tracker Changes, IRC Invites & More

Whenever there was a discussion about TV trackers in the last couple of weeks, the spotlight has been on BTN. While BTN definitely is a feature filled private tracker, it is not the only TV torrent site that’s been improving. This post is about ShareTheRemote (better known as STR), another gazelle based tracker that’s grown a fair bit since it’s launch several months ago. STR recently introduced a number of changes to its ratio system – this includes new free leech modes  (half leech, double upload), changes to what users placed under ‘ratio watch’ can download, changes to their TV show database (TheTVDB) and other minor tweaks. ShareTheRemote is currently closed for signup but they do have an official invites IRC channel where potential new members can get invited.

Share%20The%20Remote_thumb%5B2%5D[1]

Quoted below are some of the recent changes made to STR, as posted on news items on site homepage:

We have modified our tracker to support two new freeleech types. These are 'half-leech' and 'double upload'. Their functions are just as their names imply; when downloading half-leech torrents, only half of the data you download will be counted, and double upload torrents will award double the upload credit that you seed.
Effective Immediately: Torrents over 25GB are no longer freeleech, they are now half-leech.
Although this change may be met with some disparity, it is for the better of the site's health. Allowing so many large torrents to be freeleech was having detrimental effects on their seeder retention and the site's economy. We will be evaluating ways to counterbalance the loss of this freeleech for new users, so feel free to make suggestions!
We plan to use double upload as an incentive for people to download and seed underseeded torrents. We haven't came up with exact numbers for this yet, but we hope to have it implemented within the next few days.
Finally, due to TheTVDB's frequent downtime and decision to block embedding images from another torrent site, banners hosted on TheTVDB may no longer be used. It is still encouraged to use banners from that site, however you should first upload them to an image hosting site such as imgur.

Since we felt that the ratio brackets were not adequate for the size of torrents on this site, we've increased them by a factor of 1.5. This effectively increases the grace period for new users to 15GB. A full list of ratio requirements is available at rules.php?p=ratio.

We've rolled out another set of tracker changes that we hope you guys will enjoy.
The most notable of these changes is that users on ratio watch can now download full freeleech torrents. We hope that this will help users who find themselves on ratio watch without torrents that receive frequent traffic work their ways off of it.
To fix an oversight on my part, torrents may now be any logical combination of the three freeleech types. The main reasoning behind this change is to allow underseeded half-leech torrents to be double upload as well.
Additionally, the tracker now supports 'single user freeleech'. This feature treats every torrent as freeleech for any user who has this flag set. Although we do not know how or if this feature will be used, we decided to add it to prevent a later recompile if we decide to implement it.

STR details page

Although somewhat overshadowed by the success of BTN, ShareTheRemote too boats an impressive set of site features. They too have a TV Shows Database, detailed series pages, staff picks and even a TV news section. Series pages are similar to that of BTN – individual episodes and season packs for a particular show are accessible from a single location. The collector add-on found on these pages makes downloading all available full season packs for a particular show a breeze. In addition to the widgets you can see in the screenshot to the right, there is a recommendations add-on which suggests other similar shows to the user.

Currently, there are over 7200 users and nearly 5000 torrents indexed on this tracker. Some of these torrents are full season packs and some, as said earlier, are individual episodes. While STR already has a healthy flow of new daily torrents, they would need to improve this aspect if they are to compete against the likes of BTN, BMTV, etc who definitely add more content every day.

STR has been open for registration several times in the past but the site is currently invite only. However, there’s still hope for those who missed the open registrations (or for those hearing about this tracker for the first time right now). Although many are unaware, STR has an official invites channel hosted on their IRC server. You may get an invite by following the procedure mentioned on the channel topic.

Diwana – Australian and New Zealand TV Torrent Tracker Now Open

Nowadays there’s a TV tracker for almost everything. You have BMTV, BTN, TVT.com etc for US & Canadian TV shows, UKNova, The Box and TVChaos for UK TV, DesiTorrents and a lot more others for Indian/Pakistani shows and so on. Here’s another private tracker that specializes in somewhat rare TV content – Diwana is a BitTorrent site that tracks television shows from Australia and New Zealand. Apart from drama, documentaries, comedies, lifestyles shows, kids shows, etc, Diwana tracks a whole lot of sports content including cricket and rugby torrents. We did an article on this tracker way back in 2008 – the site is still going string with more content and more activity so it’s time to do an updated post. Speaking of updated articles, there’s no better time to write them than when signups are open.

Diwana

Last time we featured Diwana, it tracked 17000 torrents and had 20000 members. These stats have further improved during the past few months and the site now tracks in excess of 25000 torrents and registered user base has surpassed 32000. Needless to say this is a tracker with very good activity. The number of torrents could have been a lot higher had they not moved new sports releases to http://acrossthetasman.com (AcrossTheTasman is Diwana’s sister tracker and is currently closed for signup – however, existing Diwana.org members can request a free invite from staff).

Speaking of content, majority of Diwana’s torrent index consists of Television shows from Australia and New Zealand. This includes both full season packs and individual episodes of primetime TV, comedies, drama, soaps, game shows, science/medical series, telemovies and so on. Note that Diwana no longer indexes new sports content – sports torrents are still available but all of them are releases made in 2009 or before. Screenshot below shows part from this tracker’s torrent index:

Diwana Index

Built on TS Special Edition codebase, Diwana comes with all basic features of a private tracker. This includes a seed bonus system, requests, re-seeds, forums, advanced search, separate subtitles section, etc.

As stated above, signups for Diwana are currently open. They are known to open and close regularly so get in while you can. Note that accounts will be deleted after 60 days of inactivity.

BTN Tracker Invites Now On IRC – TV Torrents Without Ratio

BTN has opened IRC interviews once again. This popular TV torrent tracker has so far managed to justify the huge hype it received during launch. In fact, we can boldly declare that BTN is one of the most innovative and feature rich private torrent trackers to be launched during the 2009 – 2010 period. This specialized ratio free TV torrent tracker has great content, good download speeds and of course, very fast pre times. Despite being an excellent torrent site, BTN is not out of reach of the average BitTorrent user. Although it remained completely closed (no user invites and closed down invite applications) for several months, this tracker is once again accepting new members through an IRC interview process.

BTN Logo

If you’ve been browsing BitTorrent forums such as TPS or FST recently, you may have stumbled across threads which compare BTN to the likes of BitMeTV, TVTorrents.Com and Freshon.TV, the leading TV trackers in the world. This prompted us to check some statistics from these sites - here’s how BTN compares to other leading trackers of the same niche, in terms of number of users and active torrents:

Tracker No. Of Torrents No. Of Users
BTN 14000 4350
BitMeTV 25600 21700
TVTorrents.Com 16000 56000?
Freshon.TV 10200 21000?

Is this tracker really the king of TV torrent sites? Not quite, but it’s definitely getting there. As you can see from the table above, BTN’s main ‘weakness’ compared to other sites is the lack of users. Existing members of the site would know that this isn’t too much of a problem but the current open interviews should help expand the user base in any case. Also remember that we’re comparing a tracker that’s only a few months old with some of the oldest private trackers in the BitTorrent scene. BitMeTV for instance is over 5 years old. Anyways one thing is clear – BTN has done exceptionally well in the short period of time it’s been online (oh and in terms of site usability features, BTN beats the hell out of all other sites mentioned above).

BTN Index

Since our last mention of the site, BTN has added several great new features. Once of the most attractive of these is the autouploader bot – this means that more scene releases will be added to the tracker at even faster pre times. A number of other usability features including enhanced search, Actors page, TV news page, improvements to series pages and series lists pages, 1 new skin (woodenglass), etc have also been introduced. For a detailed account of BTN’s features and screenshots, we suggest you check out this article.

As mentioned in the title of this post, IRC interviews are now open. The interview itself is not likely to take a lot of time but due to heavy demand, you may have to wait in a pretty long queue. IRC channel details and a few other helpful resources are listed below:

I Love Classics Retro Movie Tracker - 1 Year Anniversary & Plans To Become Invite Only

There are many BitTorrent trackers up and about that cater for rare and obscure movies. A few examples of such sites would be Cinematik, Secret Cinema, Karagarga and Gormogon. Although not talked about a lot, one of the newcomers into this particular niche is I Love Classics (ILC). Well, it’s not exactly a brand new site as the tracker’s almost an year old. The important fact is that ILC has continued to grow at a steady pace throughout the past twelve or so months and has now evolved into a tracker that indexes over 10000 movies. If you are a fan of classic, rare, obscure, hard to find movies & TV shows, I Love Classics could be what you are looking for. This site is currently open for registrations but this is bound to change with their upcoming first anniversary. The tracker going invite only and becoming a closed community will be preceded by a week long site-wide free leech period.

I love Classics.

It’s not easy for classic movie/TV trackers to add new content – as you may know majority of indexed torrents in most private trackers are scene releases. Although the scene pres a lot of new movies and TV shows, releases of classic content are not-so-common and infrequent. Therefore, torrent trackers (or DDL forums) that specialize in these areas have to index a lot of P2P originated content, home encodes and user submitted stuff in order to grow. So far, ILC has handled this daunting task pretty well. Currently there are over 12000 indexed torrents – and a lot of them unique to ILC.

Type of content you can find on I Love Classics include both movies and TV shows. Don’t expect to find latest films such as Kick Ass or Iron Man 2 here :p . However you will be able to download a lot of retro flicks from the 1910s, 1920s, 1970s and so on. A lot of full season torrents of classic TV series are also available. Movies and TV shows are available in different video qualities – these range from TVRips, DVDRips to even Blu Ray rips. A screenshot capturing part of ILC’s torrent index may be found here:

I Love Classics Index

Ever since it’s launch ILC has been open to the public so getting into the site was not a problem. However according to administrators this will soon change with the tracker’s upcoming 1st anniversary. Apart from going invite only, several new rules to crack down on inactive users and collectors will also be introduced:

Notice to all Members
After the coming free leech, ILC will stop being open sign-up and go invitation only.
The staff will then start deleting accounts of all members that:

  • Stop their torrents upon completion (hit and run).
  • Continually ignore re-seed requests.
  • Don't seed any torrents, except 3 temporarily to allow a new download.
  • Accounts where the person has never downloaded a torrent, and not visited the site for 3 months or more. Both have to be true (downloaded AND visited) for these accounts to be deleted. If you've visited the site within the last 3 months, but never downloaded anything, your account is safe.

If you fall into one of those categories above, consider this your first and only warning. If you value your account here, this is your last chance to change your ways. If you don't, your account will be deleted and you'll never get back into this site again.
After this time, all remaining members (the sharers) will get a few invites given to them.

12,000 Torrents Birthday Celebration
To celebrate ILC's 1 year birthday and the uploading of our 12,000th torrent, everything on site will be free-leech. This will start on the 21st of May 11.59PM GMT and end on the 28th of May 11.59PM GMT.

If you still aren’t a member of this tracker (we have featured this site in the past), now would be a great sign up for an account. The site’s max user limit is set to 5000 and currently there are 3800+ registered members (roughly 1200 slots left). The upcoming free leech should help you get a head start by helping boost your ratio.

Xtremetv – TV Tracker With New/Classic Television Shows & Retro Movies

We’ve seen the birth of several new TV torrent trackers in the last couple of months. Sites such as STR, BzT and BTN got a lot of popularity from BitTorrent blogs and forums and as a result managed to grow at a rapid pace (which is a good thing). However, there are new TV trackers that received relatively less hype but still managed to put on a good show both in terms of member recruitment as well as content gathering. Xtremetv is one such site – this relatively new TV tracker has emerged out of nowhere and has established itself a solid foundation in the BitTorrent community. XTV tracks US/UK/Canadian television shows that are popular today and at the same time they index a lot of classic, retro TV series & movies, offering its users plenty of variety in content.

xtremetv

In terms of visual appearance, XTV does not look anything special. It runs on a TS Special Edition tracker script and IMO has a cluttered UI and a bad color scheme (especially the top toolbar). However, looks are not this tracker’s strength – it makes up for the dated UI with a content rich torrent index and a strong user base; as of 21/3/2010 XTV tracks 1700+ torrents and has close to 7500 registered members. These statistics are pretty good compared to other new (and some old) TV trackers that are around.

Speaking of content, XTV tracks both new, modern releases as well as classic, retro stuff. This is something we don’t often see from TV trackers and it’s definitely useful from the user’s perspective. XTV has dual browse pages to support this content division – the regular ‘Browse Torrents’ button in the top toolbar will take you to the site’s main torrent index while the two menu options available under the ‘Special Browse’ button will take you to either the ‘Classic movies’ section or the ‘Classic TV’ section. That being  said, this is by no means a retro movies/TV tracker; majority of indexed content comprise of new series that are currently being aired or have just finished airing.  XTV tracks individual episodes, full season packs and complete series torrents (some pretty huge sized torrents too).

xtremetv index
Image: XTV’s torrent index showcasing some of its classic TV content

Some of the torrents in XTV’s index have special properties. These can be any one or all of the following

  • Free Torrent – The torrent is free leech. Only upload data is added to site statistics, giving  your ratio a boost.
  • x2 Torrent – This torrent has double upload enabled.
  • Fast Speed – This torrent has at least one webseeder. Except higher than average download speeds from these torrents.

A bonus points system exists on XTV – you can spend your bonus points to buy upload credits, get invites, remove warnings, fix torrent ratios or to get a custom title in forums. Each new users gets 100 free points and 5GB upload credit upon signup.

Signups for Xtremetv is currently open. If you are looking for a TV tracker that has a mix of old and new content, give this site a go.

BitMeTV Birthday Celebrations – New Features & Rewards For Existing Members

Five years of being online is a milestone for any website on the internet. However, it’s even a bigger achievement when the said site is a private BitTorrent tracker. These sites have to endure a lot of hardship including legal pressure, server maintenance costs (since they are funded entirely by donations) and various other obstacles. BitMeTV successfully overcame these hurdles and celebrated their 5th birthday earlier this month. Back then, birthday celebrations were limited to a news post on site – it promised ‘surprises’ that were said to be ‘coming soon’. Now, several weeks later, these promises seem to have finally been upheld. BMTV has not only added some new features to the site but they've even rewarded existing members with a host of benefits including free upload credit (which almost never happens on this tracker).

BitMeTV Logo

Below is a summary of recent changes and enhancements at BMTV. Main source of this information was a news post on site homepage.

Enhanced user class privileges

  • Each Class has had their Max Torrent Slots Increased.
  • User Class increased by 5 additional slots
  • Power User increased to 55 slots
  • VIP Users have been increased to 125 slots
  • Elite members now have 555 slots

Upgrades to elite user class

  • Elite Users can now check when their status will expire by viewing their User Details page.
  • Grandfathered Elite users will show as an infinite sign.
  • Grandfathered users are those that got Elite Status before we had set time frames.

Torrent Description Generator

  • There is now a Torrent Description Generator in the left side Menu and a link to it is also on the Upload Page. This is a very useful feature especially if you are an uploader. The tool automatically generates an episode summary complete with show image, episode summary and show summary (extracted from TVRage). All you have to do is to choose the show from the drop down menu, enter the season number and then enter the episode number.

Free upload credit

Believe it or not free upload credit has finally been given to almost every good member on BMTV. According to a news post, over 51 TB of free credit have been given out to 20,000+ members.

Members have been awarded Upload Credits in the following amounts

  • Became a member from Mar 04, 2005 - Sept 30, 2005 and receive 5 GB
  • Became a member from Oct 01, 2005 - Sept 30, 2006 and receive 4 GB
  • Became a member from Oct 01, 2006 - Sept 30, 2007 and receive 3 GB
  • Became a member from Oct 01, 2007 - Sept 30, 2008 and receive 2 GB
  • Became a member from Oct 01, 2008 - Sept 30, 2009 and receive 1 GB
To receive the credit that you'd be eligible for you would have to have been using your account and have downloaded at least the same amount of upload Credit you will be receiving and a current ratio above .65.

The maximum credits amount awarded (5GB) is not a lot but I doubt any BitMeTV member would say no to it. It’s not very easy to seed on this tracker and even the smallest addition to your upload stats can help immensely when it comes to maintaining the global ratio. Anyways it’s nice to see BMTV rewarding it’s members who actually were the main reason why this tracker succeeded. If what’s posted on the homepage is correct, more gifts are on the way.

About BitMeTV

BitMeTV is one of the world’s largest private trackers for TV series. It currently tracks close to 25000 active torrents and has a registered user base close to 22000 members. Getting into BMTV is not so easy – invites are not readily available (and do not request for them here), there is no IRC recruitment and the site almost never opens signups. TVTorrents.Com, Freshon.TV, ScienceHD (for documentaries), BTN, TV-Vault (for older series) and STR can be named as viable alternatives for this tracker.

Merlin (ML) – New Science Fiction/Fantasy Torrent Tracker From ACiD Crew

It’s always refreshing to talk about a brand new torrent tracker. It’s even more refreshing when the said tracker is a specialized, niche tracker. Merlin (or ML) is a new private torrent site that indexes movies, TV shows and music that belong to Science Fiction / Fantasy genres. ML is not just any new project launched by a bunch of beginners to the BitTorrent scene. It’s backed by an experienced crew who are responsible for running the successful ACiD tracker, one of the best and oldest community based private torrent sites in existence. Launching to the public in the first week of March, Merlin will initially be closed for public signups. However, interested members will be able to join the tracker through official IRC recruitment channel as well as by requesting for an invite via E-Mail.

Merlin ML Tracker

Given the nature of secrecy surrounding ML project, chances are that you may never have heard about this site until now. Even after the public launch, it’s unlikely that ML will turn into a ‘public’ private tracker as it usually happens nowadays (not saying it’s a bad thing). It’s publicity policy is something similar to that employed by ACiD -  posting of full tracker URL or name in public is prohibited. However it’s not one of those out of reach sites either - Although there are no open signups for now (there may be in future), members will initially be recruited via both IRC and E-mail. Just like ACiD, community will have a higher focus on ML and it won’t just be about torrents and downloading.

At the time this article was written, the public launch of ML had not occurred (but by the time you read this, it may very well have happened). However, we were able to get a sneak peak of things to come thanks to the kind SysOps of this tracker. Running on a custom tracker script, Merlin’s interface definitely looked good. The layout was well organized, uncluttered and the color selection was very easy on the eyes.

Merlin Tracker

Even though it’s a brand new tracker ML already indexes 425+ active torrents. These include movies, TV shows, soundtracks all related to the Science Fiction and Fantasy genres. Quite a few exclusive, unique torrents have also been indexed. These can be identified by ‘Menc’ or ‘ML’ tags on torrent title and are usually placed inside ‘Merlin Encodes’ category. Expect ML to build both its torrent index as well as registered users database pretty fast – they have the backing of ACiD which already has a rock solid foundation with ~20000 active members.

If you are ever to become a member of ML, you might want to read their downloading rules. Quoted from the rules page:

  • A Hit & Run here on ML is when you complete a torrent, stop it and do not return to seed within 24 hrs. This applies to all torrents whether they are free download torrents, ratio boosters, and special vip torrents, such as movie box sets etc... unless other wise stated by a staff member.
  • You need to be active on every torrent you download for a minimum of 72 hrs (3 days) or, achieve a 1:1 ratio, unless the torrent is over 20 gb's in size. This means total time downloading and seeding.
  • If the torrent is over 20GB's in size then we require that you be active on it for 120 hrs (5 days) or achieve a 1:1 ratio (Which ever comes first). This means total time downloading and seeding.

The above are minimum seed time requirements. Seeding beyond the minimum will net you 1.5x credit on uploads.

How to get invited to ML

Currently there are two ways to request for an invite to ML. In both cases, you will be invited (if approved) by tracker staff themselves and there is no need to worry about getting scammed.

  1. Send an E-mail with the subject ‘Merlins Invite’ to merlins.invite@gmail.com. Be sure to include at least one screenshot (which shows your ratio on site) of a private torrent tracker that you are already a member of.
    OR
  2. Login to ML invites IRC channel and request an invite there – please follow rules stated in the channel topic. Invite channel details are as follows:
    Server: irc.pron.org.uk
    Channel: #merlins-invites
    Direct Link: irc://irc.pron.org.uk/merlins-invites

Special thanks to methods, MuddSlinger, Saavyboy and rest of ACiD/ML staff for the heads up.

BTN Invite Applications Now Online – Ratio Free TV Tracker

For several years, the private TV Torrent tracker scene has been dominated by three major players – BitMeTV, TVTorrents.Com and Tv.Torrents.Ro. Although there have been many smaller sites popping up on a regular basis, no one has really been able to pose a challenge for these three tracker so far. This however might soon change. Several promising new TV trackers have launched in the last couple of months that seem to have the potential to be the next BMTV (or even more). One of them is STR (ShareTheRemote) which we covered earlier. This post features BTN, another feature rich TV tracker that aims to revolutionize this niche.  Launched to the public last January, BTN is already making waves in the BitTorrent scene – it packed with tons of unique features, has great pre times and is ratio free.

Although BTN has been online since 2009, it wasn’t well known until January/February 2010. Even today, the site is one of those discrete trackers which doesn’t allow posting of URL or full name in public. However, that hasn’t stopped avid torrenters from getting into the tracker. Despite being invite only since launch BTN has already attracted close to 3000 active members which is quite impressive. This may have been because there was a lot of hype about BTN during the first few days since their public launch. What’s important is that the tracker has managed to actually live up to that hype.

BTN Series Pages

As we mentioned in the first paragraph, BTN is a feature rich site. It’s based on Gazelle codebase and is a prime example of how customizable & flexible this tracker script by What.CD’s coders actually is. One of the most noticeable innovations on this site is the series pages. At BTN, each TV series has it’s own page. In this page, all torrents related to a specific series are indexed. Individual episodes are separated from full season packs and this makes it a lot easier to find the torrents you need. That’s not all – series pages also hold a lot of additional information about the actual TV show. This includes series info, latest episode details, next episode details. series discussions, fan art, posters, YouTube links, statistics, actor information (upcoming feature) and it even integrates any pending/fulfilled torrent requests related to the show. Getting to a series page is easy – just click on a show name or a banner on main torrent index.

BTN Shows Index

BTN Legend

Additionally, you may notice that some of the torrents are marked with a special symbol on the main index. The ones with green background and numbers stand for upload multipliers. The yellow lighting symbol indicates that it’s a FastTorrent. FastTorrents are torrents served on high speed (24mbit or more) lines - usually seedbox hosted uploads.

But that’s not all, there are tons of other features hidden on this gem of a tracker. Following is a summary of some noticeable value added features you can find on BTN:

  • TV Schedule – A daily updated broadcast schedule for major TV shows aired on US networks
  • TV Favorites – A user customizable page where you can add and monitor your favorite TV shows
  • Shows List – A full list of shows indexed on BTN
  • Series List - A full index of series page for all shows tracked on BTN, which can be filtered by network, first letter, status or night
  • PreDB – BTN pre database
  • Knowledge Base – Site help, getting started manual, tutorials and more

All of the above can easily be accessed from the ‘Links’ section on site homepage.

Another highlight of this tracker are the blazing fast torrent indexing speeds. Although TV trackers don’t usually care a lot about pre times, BTN seems to take them seriously. According to all time site statistics on irc://irc.p2p-net.eu/tr.chat, BTN is among the top 10 fastest trackers based on the number of overall race wins:

BTN pre times

And before we forget, BTN is a ratio free tracker. You do not need to maintain a global upload : download ratio as on most other private trackers. However there are some other rules all members must adhere to:

  • There is NO RATIO.
  • Seed all individual TV eps 1:1 or 24 hours.
  • Seed all Season packs 1:1 or 120 hours.
  • Torrents will not be considered a HnR if you download less than 10%, dont abuse this.
  • If you pause a torrent, you have 12 hours to restart it or it will become a HnR.
  • Seeding torrents will not show as a HnR.
  • You MUST seed the torrent to the required amounts within 2 weeks or you will receive a warning or even a ban.

-Quoted from BTN rules page

To make life easier for it’s members, BTN also maintains a bonus system. Bonus points are awarded for seeding completed torrents. Every 15 minutes you are awarded 0.25 points for each completed torrent you're seeding. You can spend bonus points at the BP Store. The store allows you to exchange upload credit/points, gift credits to others and even purchase site invites.

How to get into BTN

No matter how good a tracker is, it would be of little use to our readers if there was no way to get in. Thankfully, BTN is not an uber l33t elite tracker beyond reach of everyone. Although it’s not open for signup, there are ways interested members can join for free. Earlier on, BTN used to recruit members through IRC. They have now made things easier for applicants (and for those who don’t like IRC) and have made available a web based invite application. There are 11 questions you need to answer and if your application is accepted by staff, you will receive a BTN invite.

Best BitTorrent Trackers To Download British (UK) TV Shows

Lots of people tend to download television series via BitTorrent these days – there are even specialized TV trackers online that cater the needs of such users. However, most of these TV torrent sites focus mainly on series that are based on the United States (or Canada). But what if you want to download shows made in the United Kingdom (UK)? There are many UK based shows such as Doctor Who, The IT Crowd, BBC Documentaries, etc that hugely popular across the world and there are no doubt many torrenters who’d like to get their hands on such great content. This post summarizes information about three private torrent trackers that are dedicated to indexing British TV shows; The Box, ChaosUK and UKNova. From premium documentaries to entertainment series, you can probably find almost all major UK TV show among these three torrent sites.

The Box
TheBox
The Box is probably the largest of all trackers featured here. There is an experienced crew behind The Box who are also responsible for the creation of niche trackers such as The Occult, The Place and The Vault. With over 50000 members and 50000 active torrents, this site ain’t fuc*ing around.  There are TV shows related to 37 different categories ranging from game shows to drama series. The Box also tracks some audio only content such as comedy aired on British radio. The site is based on a custom version of XBTT script and they’ve recently changed category icons which IMHO has improved the site’s looks.
The Box Shows

The Box is currently open for registrations. However, keep in mind that these open signup windows usually last for very short periods of time. There is no reason to worry though – it opens doors to the public almost on a daily basis. If you missed the current open signup, check back after some time. There’s a good chance it’ll be open again.

UKNova
UKNova Logo
Although overshadowed by Box in some cases, UKNova is another content rich British TV tracker that has been online for years. With around 35000 registered members it too has a decently sized user base. There are close to 2500 active torrents at the time of this posting and these are indexed across 5 main categories; TV entertainment, fiction, factual (mainly news and documentaries), radio and miscellany. UKNova is built on a custom tracker script and looks very different from your average private tracker. However it has all the major features of a torrent site including category based search, torrent bookmarking, RSS, forums and chat.
UKNova

Just like The Box (above), UKNova too has very volatile open signups. Doors tend to open and close on a very frequent basis. Right now it’s open for signup but by the time you read this post, it may be a different story. If this is the case, try again later – you’ll almost certainly catch it open within the day if you keep trying.

ChaosUK (TotalChaos)
TotalChaos
Out of the three sites featured in this article, ChaosUK is probably the smallest and the lesser known. However, there’s no reason to underestimate this tracker – it’s still a very good source for UK based television content both old and new. In addition to TV, it tracks English movies including a lot of classics produced before 1985 as well as some sports content. Right now there are about 1500 active torrents indexed and this number keeps growing daily. Site is built on TS Special Edition tracker script which most of you might familiar. Below is a screenshot of some of the categories found on ChaosUK:
ChaosUK

Thankfully, TotalChoas signups seem to remain open for an extended amount of time. Albeit usually a closed community, TC has been in open registration mode for the last couple of days. If you are interested in British TV shows, Radio shows, movies, documentaries and lifestyle related shows, it’s a decent tracker to have.

BzEe.TV – A New Ratio Free TV Tracker

BitTorrent community has many specialized TV torrent trackers including veteran sites such as BitMeTV as well as promising new trackers such as ShareTheRemote. There are however not many ratio free TV trackers around - BzEe.TV is a site that aims to fill this gap. BzEe is a brand new ratioless tracker which indexes international Television series (mostly from United States) and tracks both individual weekly episodes as well as complete season packs. You may have not heard about this site before but it’s not an uber secret elite tracker that’s impossible to get into – BzEe.TV is currently open for signup and anyone is free to register an check it out (they have plans to close registrations once user limit hits 1000).

BzEE.TV

We wouldn’t categorize BzEe as the first ratio free TV tracker as there are several  other similar sites that are ‘close’ to being ratio free. TVTorrents.com for example is based on credits system (which still closely resembles a ratio system) and TVTorrentZ employs a unique system which combines seeding hours, adoption, etc. BzEe on the other hand does not enforce any minimum global ratio rules on its members – only requirements is to seed for at least 72 hours within the first 7 days since download completion. The actual amount of data you upload does not matter as long as the seeding time requirements are met – should be good news for those with low bandwidth internet connections.

BzEE.TV Index

However, keep in mind that  BzEe is a brand new tracker. The site  opened signups to the public just two days ago so don’t expect to find the same level of activity of BitMeTV on this tracker. Torrent index is also small but new releases seem to be added at a decent pace – as of 23/10/2009 there were over 500 active torrents. Both XViD releases as well as HD x264 encodes are available for download. Speaking of the UI, if you are used to somewhat modern tracker scripts such as Gazelle you might find BzEe’s layout (which is based on TorrentTrader) to be slightly dated. However it has all the basic functions usually found on  a private tracker so this shouldn’t be a serious problem.

Signups for BzEe are currently open. According to a post on their forums, registrations will close once the user limit reaches ~1000. If you are looking to be part of a new ratio free TV tracker, go ahead and check the site out.

ShareTheRemote TV Tracker Open Again – Now With More Torrents And New Features

While everyone was chasing after BitMeTV and TVTorrents.Com, ShareTheRemote (STR) grew. This great new TV tracker backed by the crew behind Pass The Popcorn has recorded an impressive growth during its first month since launch. With thousands of new members recruited and hundreds of TV shows indexed, this new entrant to the BitTorrent community is indeed showing some real promise. Thankfully, STR’s admins have not become obsessed with recruiting new members and expanding their torrent index – they seem to be focused on making technical improvements to the tracker as well; In a new reload of the site, tongs of bugs have been fixed and several new features have been rolled out. If you missed out on this site when we first posted about it a month ago, here’s a another chance to get in – signups at STR are now open and user limit has been raised.

Share The Remote

Last time we featured STR on this blog, it tracked 450 torrents and had around 1300 users. Flash forward a month later and you’ll see that these statistics have exploded. As of 11/1/2010 STR tracks over 3500 torrents (880+ TV shows) and has a strong user base of 5000+ registered members. There are already 350+ completed requests (55%+ fill ratio) which is an indication that STR’s community is shaping up nicely as well. With the re-opened registrations, one can only expect these stats to improve further.

As we mentioned in our previous article, ShareTheRemote tracks both regular and HD TV torrents (including XViD, x264 encodes as well as untouched DVD releases). You can find here individual episodes as well as full season packs of popular television shows aired in the US. Note that STR does not allow uploading of complete series torrents (multiple seasons packed into a single torrent) – such releases are required to be broken into several full season packs and uploaded. You might think this is unnecessary but on a site like STR that’s powered by the Gazelle codebase’s organization features, it works well.

STR Torrents

STR rolled out many new features and bugfixes just hours before this article was written. Following text (quoted from news posts on site) should shed more light into the new updates:

Ratio/Joined/Upload/Download now show on forum posts.
"Request a Reseed" - This button will now show on torrents with no seeders and will notify the uploader.
Comments can now be made on requests.
Torrents will now show if they've been reported, and the reports will show. This should cut down on duplicate reports.
Torrent comments can now be viewed, as well as comments made on your torrents. comments.php
The view avatars option has been reinstated and is functional.
Checking 'Force SSL' in your profile will now automatically log you into SSL and will convert all links you click to SSL.
Ratings on shows work.
The cache-related problems on comments and forum posts have been fixed.

On the technical side, quite a lot has changed. The most notable change is that the database has been substantially restructured to make it much more TV-centric. To go with these database changes, the upload page has been completely revamped. Resolutions have been vastly simplified, episode names have been added, and a "scene auto-populate" feature has been added, which will automatically populate information into the upload page when you upload a torrent taken from a scene site. Additionally, we've compiled an official taglist. We've also added a "Chat" tab, which creates a relay to the "#SharetheRemote" and "#Help" IRC channels without having to run an IRC client. This chat is unique in the fact that it does not actually establish a connection to the IRC server and will parse bold and underline BBCode.

And probably the best news for those who still haven’t joined ShareTheRemote – signups have been re-opened. A notice on STR reads:

Open registration is now in effect. We have yet again opened our doors. Although open registrations are subject to close at any time, we will not allow our numbers to exceed 10,000 within this period. After open registrations close, we will be giving one invite to every user, and will most likely raise the user cap to 12,000. We understand that this may concern some users, but we believe it is in the best interest of the site and its economy.

Currently there are around 5k registered users but since signups could close any time – we suggest you create an account without wasting any more time. If you like TV shows, chances are that you’ll like STR.

Share The Remote – New Gazelle Based TV Tracker

With Demonoid temporarily down, Pirate Bay shutting down its trackers and now Mininova finally going ‘legit’, one would think BitTorrent as a community is collapsing. This assumption however is far from the truth. Smaller, yet promising new trackers are being launched all the time – they may not be as popular as the likes of TPB but most of the time they do the job just fine. Today we’re going to talk about another brand new addition to the BitTorrent scene – Share The Remote (STR). STR is a gazelle based TV tracker with TV episode torrents and full season packs in both High Def and standard formats. If I am correct, this is probably the first specialized TV tracker to run on Gazelle.

ShareTheRemote

It hasn’t been long since STR was launched. The site has been online in beta test mode for around three weeks but the official launch was only around 10 hours ago (at time of this post). Following is quoted from a news post on site:

Hi,
We've officially launched the site today. Special thanks to all of the users who helped us test and develop the site, we couldn't have done it without you! To thank all of you who have joined the site so early, we will have freeleech on ALL TORRENTS for the next 48 hours. This should establish a decent seed-base on most of the torrents and ensure that none of you encounter any issues with ratio.
We will have open registration until we reach five thousand users, so make sure to tell all of your friends about the site! After we've reached this amount, we'll be implementing special ways to earn invites, so make sure to watch the news for that.
Make sure to familiarize yourself with the rules. While we'll be fairly lenient with the rules in the beginning, we will not tolerate overt abuse or genuine intentions to cause trouble.
If you have any questions, feel free to use our myriad of help options. The Knowledge Base currently contains a handful of useful guides (Including a very in-depth guide on how to log into the website!) that should assist you in performing many basic actions on the site. If you have a question that the Knowledge Base does not cover, feel free to post on the forums or send me a private message.
Again, big thanks to all of you who have joined the site. We are looking forward to seeing this site become the best private TV torrent tracker on the net!
Also, feel free to join us on IRC at irc.sharetheremote.org channel #ShareTheRemote.

For a very young tracker, STR has recorded some pretty impressive stats. It’s already amassed over 1300 registered members as well as over 450 torrents (150+ active). Behind the site are some familiar names in the BT community – several STR staff members are also staffers on popular movie tracker PassThePopcorn (PTP).

As mentioned at the start of this post, STR is a specialized TV tracker. You can find and download English television series (both currently airing and previously aired shows) torrents from here. They do seem to focus a lot on complete season torrents as even now there’s a good number of packs indexed on STR.

Share The Remote

As for the layout, STR runs on Gazelle script. Right now there aren't many customizations apart from logo, category icons, etc (no custom themes yet - apart from those available in out of the box Gazelle). Staff are currently ironing out bugs and tweaking the site – don’t forget it’s only been a few hours since their launch.

Signups for STR are currently open. As noted in site homepage, they will remain open till user count reaches 5000. IMHO it’s a good move to initially build the user base without imposing restrictions such as interviews and invite application (not saying they’re bad though). Anyways if you are interested go check it out.

SceneXViD – Specialized XViD Movie/TV Torrent Tracker Now Open

I first stumbled across SceneXViD a few days ago while browsing FST - someone had opened a thread advertising the tracker there. Initially it appeared to be another forgettable tracker but it’s recorded some impressive growth over the first few days since launch. SceneXViD is a private torrent tracker that specializes in movies and TV shows encoded using XViD codec. It would have been the first private tracker of this kind but 700m.bz (Open) kinda already won that trophy. Still, SceneXViD appears to be a decent tracker in a world populated by thousands of ‘general’ trackers.

SceneXvid

I’ve seen folks argue that XViD is a dying codec specially when it comes to BitTorrent. Argument is that higher fidelity encoders such as X264 are taking its place. While this is true to some extent, XViD is by no means a dying codec. In fact, it is still the king among movie/TV encodes – if you look in most trackers, XViD version of the same movie/TV show is snatched a lot more than the x264 version. Anyways I just wanted to point out that SceneXViD will have no problems when it comes to finding or indexing new XViD rips and their decision to index XViD-only content would not limit or reduce member recruitment. (If you want non XViD content, you can try looking in SceneDVDR (Open), their sister site which indexes untouched DVDs)

SceneXViD has only been online for about a week and it’s done quite well during this time. So far the site has managed to recruit around 750 members and get close to 300 torrents uploaded. Note that this is a Swedish site and the interface language is always set to Swedish– right now there is no way to change it to English. This shouldn’t be too much of a problem as navigation is pretty straightforward.

Download speeds and pre times (which are sometimes measured in hours) on SceneXViD are nothing much to talk about but hopefully they’ll improve as the site grows. As for the content, both Swedish and English releases are indexed. If you are looking for English only releases, look under ENG, TV-ENG and PACKS categories. Below is a screenshot showing part of the torrent index:

SceneXvid Screenshot

Signups for SceneXViD are currently open – there are no IRC recruitments, invite applications or interviews. Just fill the signup form (you might need the help of Google Translate) and you’re in.

The DVD Club is open for signup – Full DVDR torrents

Well this came as quite a surprise but it’s true – The DVD Club (TDC) is currently open for signup. TDC is a private BitTorrent tracker that specializes in movies and TV shows in untouched DVDR and Blu Ray formats. Almost every file sharer is probably familiar with DVDRips and BRRips that are found in countless general/0-day trackers. The DVD Club is not just another tracker that indexes movie and TV rips – in fact, you won’t find any DVDRips, BRRips, etc on TDC. It only has untouched, non-ripped versions of DVDs (Or Blu Rays) that come complete with interactive menus, bonus features, extras and all the other goodies that usually aren’t available in rips.

The DVD Club

We’ve seen several new DVDR trackers popping up in recent times but TDC is one of the oldest trackers catering to this niche. It’s been online for more than three years and is a well established site tracker in the BitTorrent scene. As of 21/10/2009, TDC has an active user base of 8400+ registered members. That’s over 2400 new members added since January 2009, and the site was in invite only mode for the most part. Also keep in mind that TDC purges inactive members very frequently – collectors don’t stand a chance on this tracker.

Speaking of the content in TDC, you can find both movies and TV shows here. TDC initially began as a DVDR only tracker but it expanded with the arrival of Blu Ray, etc and caught up with the times. Now, untouched DVD5/DVD9/R5 (both PAL and NTSC) as well as x264 encoded Blu Ray movies are plentiful on this tracker.

The DVD Club screenshot

As you can see from the screenshot above, TDC has a nice clean layout, well organized search features and easy-to-identify color coded torrents. They are currently running a Halloween theme that’s why the category icons look a little odd. Speaking of Halloween, expect to find a lot of horror movies on TDC as they only recently ran the Horror Fest 2009 competition.

The DVD Club is usually closed for signup – there was a time it didn’t open up for years but open signups have been more frequent during end 2008 and 2009. However this is the first open registration in almost 4 months so they are still not that commonplace. Following is quoted from site homepage:

Open Sign Ups - [Oct-19-2009]

We are open until some undisclosed date/time, so hurry and let your friends know. Just remember cheating/trading will get you banned so think twice before doing it, we are watching
Also please use the site(leech/seed) if you are a collector you'll get disabled in no time WE WANT ACTIVE USERS!!!!!

What they say about collectors is true. If you don’t plan on using it, don’t even bother to register. But if you actually are a fan of untouched DVDR/Blu-Ray content, this is one of the best trackers there if for that niche.
