Getting a malware warning for every site in Google search results?

Update: This problem seems to be fixed now.

Something’s up with Google. Right now every Google search result contains “This site may harm your computer” malware warning beneath it. See screenshot below:

google search results

The above screenshot displays search results for keyword ‘Google’. As you can see each and every result is labeled as “This site may harm your computer’. When you click on a search result to visit the page, a detailed warning message appears. Must be a glitch on big G’s end. By the way FireFox 3 Safe Browsing which obtains attack site data from the same service as Google (stopbadware.org) does not display  warnings for any of the legitimate sites.

Mathematica 7.0 - Modeling, simulation, visualization, development, documentation, and deployment.

Here is a nice piece of software which I’m sure students and professionals in scientific, engineering and mathematical fields will find useful. Data and function visualization, visualizing and analyzing graphs, formula manipulation and optimization and report generation are just a few of the functions Mathematica is capable of. As of 11/12/2008, v7.0 is the latest available version of Mathematica.

mathematica 7

Developer Description

If you're doing anything technical, think Mathematica--not just for computation, but for modeling, simulation, visualization, development, documentation, and deployment.

Why Mathematica? Because this one integrated system delivers unprecedented workflow, coherence, reliability, and innovation. Rather than different toolkits for different jobs, Mathematica has been built ground-up over nearly 20 years to deliver one vision: the ultimate technical application and environment.

Features

The following is a summarized feature set obtained from Wikipedia. For a detailed explanation of full capabilities of this software, please visit this page.

  • Libraries of elementary and special mathematical functions
  • 2D and 3D data and function visualization tools
  • Matrix and data manipulation tools including support for sparse arrays
  • Solvers for systems of equations, ODEs, PDEs, DAEs, DDEs and recurrence relations
  • Numeric and symbolic tools for discrete and continuous calculus
  • Multivariate statistics libraries
  • Constrained and unconstrained local and global optimization
  • A programming language supporting procedural, functional and object oriented constructs
  • A toolkit for adding user interfaces to calculations and applications
  • Tools for image processing
  • Tools for visualizing and analysing graphs
  • Data mining tools such as cluster analysis, sequence alignment and pattern matching
  • Libraries of number theory functions
  • Continuous and discrete integral transforms
  • Import and export filters for data, images, video, sound, CAD, GIS, document and biomedical formats
  • A collection of databases of mathematical, scientific, and socio-economic information (see below)
  • Support for complex number, arbitrary precision and symbolic computation for all functions
  • Notebook interface for review and re-use of previous inputs and outputs including graphics and text annotations
  • Technical word processing including formula editing

Download Stanford engineering courses free of charge from ‘Stanford Engineering Everywhere (SEE)’

This should be good news for engineering students among us. Stanford University’s School of Engineering is offering freely downloadable engineering courses via the web. As you might already know, Stanford is one of the most reputed universities in the world. This should be a good opportunity for engineering students across the world gain access to high quality study material from Stanford.

This programme is called ‘Stanford Engineering Everywhere’ and here is what it says on the home page:

For the first time in its history, Stanford is offering some of its most popular engineering classes free of charge to students and educators around the world. Stanford Engineering Everywhere (SEE) expands the Stanford experience to students and educators online. A computer and an Internet connection are all you need. View lecture videos, access reading lists and other course handouts, take quizzes and tests, and communicate with other SEE students, all at your convenience.

Stanford

Currently there are 10 courses online under the fields of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Linear Systems and Optimization. What’s cool about this services is that even multimedia content such as full lecture videos are available in many different forms (Youtube, Torrents (you’ll need Vuze to download these torrents as they use the Vuze HD network), WMV, MP4 etc :

Stanford Engineering Everywhere offers:

  • Anytime and anywhere access to complete lecture videos via streaming or downloaded media.
  • Full course materials including syllabi, handouts, homework, and exams.
  • Online social networking with fellow SEE students.
  • Support for PCs, Macs and mobile computing devices.

Spread this news around. I’m sure many people will benefit from this.

ReleaseLog (RLSLOG) hacked?

It looks as if the popular scene releases indexing site ReleaseLog (better known as RLSLOG) has been hacked. There was an automatic redirect in place earlier that redirected all visitors to a notification about a new site named Zerosec.ws. Zerosec.ws is supposedly the new site from ex-RlsLog editors. Now the redirect seems to have been removed and on the homepage is a post by the administrator account. Judging by the comments from editors, it looks as if they are barred from making new posts.

rlslog hacked

Around two weeks ago there was this whole drama about several of RLSLOG editors leaving the site due to a conflict with the admin.

RLSLOG IRC Channel now has the following topic:

* Topic is 'Yes RLSLOG.net has been hacked, please be patient all will be fixed soon.'
* Set by Flat on Fri Aug 29 08:59:57

Anyway hacking the site in a childish manner does not seem to be the right way to resolve the problem and I really hope this won't be then end of RLSLOG as it was really a nice site.

Update: It seems that Martin (RLSLOG admin) has regained control of the site and everything seems to be normal.
