SqN Invites On IRC – Ratio Free Music Tracker

Here’s yet another decent BitTorrent tracker for the music fans among our readers. SqN is an underrated (you may even call it ‘secret’, given their rules against publicity) private tracker that tracks English music albums. Although you don’t see much hype building around this tracker, there’s no denying the fact that SqN has joined the ranks of other successful ratio free music trackers. Not only does it sport a beautiful layout but more importantly it’s torrent index has improved quite a lot over the past few months. Ever since their public launch back in last July, SqN has never once opened public registrations. However, that doesn’t mean it’s a site that’s impossible to get into. They do have an official invites channel and interested readers can get invited provided they pass the short IRC interview.

SqN came online back in July 2009 and today, after about 6 months since launch, their torrent index has expanded quite a lot. The site now has nearly 6000 active torrents and more releases are being added daily. However, tracker staff have been very selective when it comes to recruiting members. Most of the site’s current users are chosen from IRC interviews and as of 09/1/2010 there were around 900 registered members on SqN. Additionally, this tracker does not prefer unwanted publicity; it’s always been closed for public signups and there are rules in place that prohibit members from posting full tracker name or URL in public (which may explain why it’s not a widely discussed tracker on various BitTorrent forums and blogs).

If you are a fan of English music, chances are that you’ll find something you like on this tracker - SqN tracks music torrents related to 32 different music genres. MP3 albums, lossless music tracks, official soundtracks (OST) and even concert videos can be found here. Most of the torrents are scene releases but their Packs section (which can be accessed from the main toolbar itself) has close to 200 exclusive collections which is an impressive feat for a specialized music tracker.

SQN Index

As the title of this post says, SqN is a ratio free torrent site. That means, unlike on most other private trackers, you do not need to maintain a minimum global ratio here. However that doesn’t mean you can hit and run on torrents. Quoted from site rules:

You have to seed to a 1:1 ratio or for at least 5 days within 14 days after you finish the download.

Don't hit & run (a.k.a. leech&run).

A bonus system is also present on this tracker. You’ll receive 0.5 points per hour for every torrent you are seeding. You can later use earned bonus points to remove warnings, buy upload credit, etc. Other ways to earn bonus points include uploading a torrent, uploading a pack, making a forum post and starting a new topic on the forums.

As stated earlier the only way into SqN is via the IRC interview. It’s not nearly as hard as What.CD’s interview but you’ll need some experience with music trackers to get in. A list of questions that are usually asked in the process include:

Why do you want to join SqN?
What can you contribute with?
I need to see ratio proofs from 2 other music trackers where you have at least 20GB upload and 10GB download.
Do you have any skills? (eg: photoshop 1337, irc master, php skills)
What do you think about trading, faking, scamming? Do you trade?
How big is your music library?
Where are you from?
Where did you hear about SqN and this recruitment channel?
Promise you will USE the account.

See below for invites channel details and IRC server information. If you are new to the whole IRC thing, we suggest you first read this brief tutorial.

Server: irc.p2p-network.net
Channel: #SqN-invites

Note: Follow the channel rules and do as the topic says.

When navigating the site (or trying to log in), you might get error messages such as “Too many users. Please press the Refresh button in your browser to retry.” or “The server load is very high at the moment. Retrying, please wait...”. These are caused by server being busy and usually go away after a few seconds – have patience.

Special thanks to SqN staff team for the heads up.
