Update: The site has returned at http://www.moviex.info and their BitTorrent tracker is back online. At the time this post is written, registrations are also open.
MoviesX.info, a private BitTorrent tracker and a forum, has been down since the 4th of December. The exact reason for the downtime is not known as of this moment. According to TorrentFreak and a few other news articles (Article 1, Article 2), the site’s servers were raided by the Australian police and two individuals have been arrested. However, a post by Devo (one of the moviex administrators) on site’s temporary forums tell a different story.
Moviex’s original URL (www.moviex.info) now redirects to http://www2.moviex.info/. It does not mention anything about the site being taken down but displays the notice “We Will Be Back Shortly” along with a link to what claims to be the MovieX temporary forums.
Surprisingly, forum posts by Devo mention a hard disk failure to be the reason for current downtime:
Hello,
We have suffered a major HDD failure on the Network File Storage server which contained all the site data (Web Data + MySQL + All the backups). Currently, we are in a process of restoration process but this will take a couple of days to complete.
Then an update on the 5th of December (again posted by DEVO):
We have currently restored 10% of the data lost and working our way up. Currently we cannot give any ETA but we will give them out in a day or two.
Regards,
MovieX Adminstration
At this moment, what actually caused the downtime at MovieX is not confirmed. If the site is really taken down, it remains to be seen whether it can pull a Demonoid and come back online.
