In February 2009, we introduced to our readers a new private movie torrent tracker named 700MBz. It’s been over four months since the site’s launch and in the meantime lots of things have changed– it’s time for an updated article. For those of you who missed our previous post, 700M.Bz is a movie tracker which only tracks 700MB and 1.4GB XViD rips – you won’t find any DVDR releases or HD content here. Scene releases as well as a lot of user uploaded movies are indexed on this tracker. 700MBz is based on the Gazelle codebase – a BitTorrent tracker script pioneered by What.CD.
There is no doubt that 700MBz has grown in the past few months. The site’s user base which comprised only of ~100 members when we first reviewed it has grown to an impressive 3400+ registered users. Torrent index too has expanded from around 150 movies to nearly 650 movies (as of June 2009 ). Something I would like to see on this tracker is the introduction of ‘packs’– currently there are no movie packs indexed other than individual torrents.
Earlier on 700MBz received a lot of criticism regarding it’s Gazelle implementation - initial version was an out of the box, un-customized version of Gazelle which looked exactly like the layout of What.CD. However during the past four months 5 additional custom stylesheets have been introduced (styles can be switched through your profile page).
Even though it’s a few months old, this is still a young tracker. Like most new trackers, 700MBz is somewhat lacking in user activity. The good thing however is that the the SysOp seems to be aware of it and several measures have been taken to encourage more activity. Registrations have been re-opened to increase the number of users and free leech has been enabled on all new torrents for 24 hours to increase activity of existing members. The new ‘24 hour’ free leech rule is pretty interesting – if you download a movie within 24 hours since it was added to the tracker, only the amount you uploaded will be recorded by the site – a great way to build and maintain ratio.
As mentioned above 700MBz registrations will be open till the site reaches max user limit (which is 7500 – there are around 4000 more spots available). Each new user gets 1.4GB free upload credit as well as two free invitations to the tracker. If you are interested, check it out.
